Wednesday, March 2nd, the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans play for the third of four scheduled games this season. Sacramento is up 2-0 winning 113-109 on October 29th and 112-99 on November 3rd and will host the final game between the clubs on April 5th.
New Orleans got an extended rest having last played Sunday when they routed the Lakers 123-95 while the Kings served up their own rout defeating the Thunder 131-110 on Monday.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Pelicans winning two of the three contests. The Pelicans hold the advantage all-time winning 36 of the 67 matches versus the Kings.
Sacramento Kings
The victory versus the Thunder ended a four-game losing streak for Sacramento. The stars led the way as Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox both registered double-double efforts.
Specifically, Fox offered 29 points and 10 assists plus four rebounds, two steals, and a block. Sabonis posted 14 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and a steal.
Many thought Harrison Barnes would be moved at the deadline but the franchise elected to keep him and he showed why Monday serving up 23 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
With Holmes out, newly acquired Trey Lyles got the nod for his first start as a King and delivered with 24 points plus six rebounds and two assists.
Richaun Holmes (back) is questionable for Wednesday. Terence Davis (wrist) is out indefinitely.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans did something that rarely ever happens — their dominant beatdown of the Lakers elicited the Crypto.com fans to boo their home team.
Even in years, the Lakers struggled or were rebuilding I’m not sure I ever recall their fanbase booing them. The Pels weren’t just up – they were punishing the Lakers who eventually gave up even trying (hence why the fans got incensed and booed).
Knowing how important it is for the Lakers to get wins the fact they didn’t try stood out more than any other. And that’s a testament to how hard the Pels are competing.
The Pels are 7-4 in their last 11 games with CJ McCollum seamlessly fitting in and in particular found the perfect offensive balance with Brandon Ingram.
McCollum led the way Sunday with 22 points, five rebounds, eight assists, and two steals while Ingram added 19 points, five rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.
All five starters (plus Devonte Graham) scored in double-digits. Jonas Valanciuns collected a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds while Jaxson Hayes just missed out on his own with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Larry Nance Jr. (knee) is out indefinitely. Kira Lewis Jr. (ACL) is lost for the season and Williamson (foot) continues to be away from the team as he works to come back from his surgery.
