Game 6 of the first-round series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic tips off the NBA Playoff action on Friday. Cleveland will be seeking to clinch the series after a nail-biting 104-103 victory on Tuesday.
Season Series
The teams split the regular season series each winning twice. Last season the Cavaliers swept the four-game regular season series and also hold the all-time record between the clubs with 65 victories in 126 matches.
This is the second time the clubs are facing each other in the postseason with the Magic winning 4-2 in 2009.

Cleveland Cavaliers
This season, questions abounded regarding the lack of growth of first-round draft choice Evan Mobley. Upon his selection, many pundits suggested he could become a perennial All-Defensive player and cornerstone of the franchise.
Instead, he regressed in some areas, took small steps in others, and spent a good portion (32 games) of the season out injured.
When the franchise elected to punt the final game of the season to land their preference (the Magic) some wondered if that was a tip of the hat that big changes were coming this offseason.
Perhaps those thoughts will be put on hold after Tuesday as Mobley had arguably his best postseason showing. With Jarrett Allen sidelined, Mobley delivered a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds plus four assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Most importantly, he clinched the victory with a game-saving block.

Cavaliers Stats
Through the season, Cleveland ranked 16th offensively (114.7), and seventh defensively (112.1) with a plus +2.5 net differential that ranked 12th overall.
Through the fifth game of the playoffs, they rank 15th offensively (98.9) and fourth defensively (107.4) with a minus -8.5 net differential ranking 13th.
Cleveland wasn’t a strong bet against the spread with a 40-45-2 record through 87 contests.
Cavaliers Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Jarrett Allen, C (questionable — ribs)
- Craig Porter Jr., PG (OUT indefinitely — ankle)
- Ty Jerome, PG (OUT indefinitely—ankle)
- Dean Wade, PG (OUT indefinitely —knee)
Orlando Magic
Although the Magic lost Game 5 there were plenty of positives to take away. It was the first time in the series they were competitive in Cleveland and if they can force a Game 7 they will carry that thought forward.
Paolo Banchero led the way for his Magic with a playoff career-best 39 points but needed more help. And, perhaps took too many shots particularly late when the Cavs were expecting it and loaded up on him.
Magic Stats
The Magic ranks 22nd offensively (112.9) and third defensively (110.8) while possessing the 14th-rated net differential of plus +2.2 this season.
Through five playoff games, they rank 13th offensively (107.4) and second defensively (98.9) with a plus +8.5 net differential ranking fourth.
Orlando was one of the better bets against the spread this season, possessing a 54-33 record through 87 games.
Magic Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Gary Harris, SG (left last game/questionable Friday — hamstring)

Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Orlando Magic NBA Prediction:i
Given the small markets and lower scores this series has flown under the radar, but (like the Knicks-76ers) has been one of the most competitive in the first round.
Orlando has all the pressure on them to win or go home but has the home arena cheering them on. Overall, the Magic have shown the ability to score at home while the Cavs have struggled at the Amway Center (averaging 86 points in the two games).
It sure feels like this series deserves a Game 7 so I’m betting on Jamahl Mosley making the right adjustments and having his youngsters ready to take this series the distance.
