Monday, March 28th, finds the Sacramento Kings facing the Miami Heat for the second and final time this season. Sacramento won the initial match on January 2nd with a close score of 115 to 113.
The last time these teams played the Kings roster looked dramatically different but the Heat were playing much better at that time so this game poses all sorts of questions with regard to how the Heat will respond to their recent slide down the standings.
Both teams last played Saturday with Sacramento winning 114-110 in overtime versus the Magic while the Heat was finishing a back-to-back set that witnessed losses in both as they succumbed 103-111 to the Knicks on Friday and 95-110 to the Nets on Saturday.
Last season, the squads played twice with the Heat winning both contests. The Heat holds the all-time record having bested the Kings in 43 of their 66 matches.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings have won two games in a row, mind you both against other tanking, lottery-bound clubs (Magic, Pacers) but this team is seemingly enjoying playing the role of spoiler.
They took the Magic to overtime on Saturday with seven Kings scoring in double-figures. Rookie Davion Mitchell led the way with 22 points.
Harrison Barnes (19), Donte DiVincenzo (16), Alex Len (15), Damian Jones (15), Trey Lyles (11), and Justin Holiday (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
De’Aaron Fox (hand) was downgraded to out on Monday. Domantas Sabonis (knee) and Terence Davis (wrist) are out indefinitely. Richaun Holmes (personal) is out for the remainder of the season.
Miami Heat
Without their head coach, Erick Spoelstra the Heat struggles continued as they lost for the fourth consecutive time and were down by 37 points at one stage.
Afterward, veteran Kyle Lowry spoke stating they aren’t panicking but noted they ‘have to fix some stuff’ which is a mild understatement. The main damage was done in the second quarter when the Nets outscored Miami 40-21 and never looked back.
The absence of Tyler Herro was playing a factor but he was back on Saturday although he scored just 13 points on 5 of 14 shooting and 0 of 5 from the perimeter.
Five Heat players scored in double-figures but none offered more than 14 points which was the tally Bam Adebayo registered. Max Strus (13), Kyle Lowry (12), and Caleb Martin (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
PJ Tucker (knee), Tyler Herro (knee), Caleb Martin (calf), and Gabe Vincent (toe) are all questionable for Monday.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Sacramento is 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games.
- Miami is 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 4 of Sacramento’s last 5 games.
- Miami is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games at home.
Free Sacramento Kings vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Normally a 13 point spread in favor of the Heat wouldn’t be something to spend too much time pondering but with the way Miami is playing it’s food for thought.
At first, I thought Miami was trying to move down the ladder to position themselves for the postseason but the manner in which they are losing no longer appears to be Pat Riley and his squad playing with us.
Couple that with the Kings enjoying playing spoiler and there’s more to ponder heading into this match. In spite of the four-game losing streak, the Heat are still technically tied for first with the Celtics.
Boston is resting star Tatum with Williams also out on Monday so even if they lose this game Miami could still be in first after this game regardless of a win or a loss.
Tough to imagine the Heat wants to keep losing, so I’m wont to give them the benefit of the doubt. Given who is expected to be out for the Kings I imagine the Heat will be looking to have a strong showing on both ends of the court in this match.
Moreover, the Kings rank 29th on perimeter defense allowing opponents to shoot 36.8 percent so if Miami is looking to break out of this cold shooting spell this is the team to do it against.
