Both the Thunder and the Trail Blazers come into Tuesdays meeting in Oklahoma City on the second leg of a back-to-back. Portland’s win last night was more impressive, a 109-104 win over Utah, but it was also more draining. Oklahoma City had a mid-day 127-109 thumping of the Knicks that allowed them plenty of travel time to get back home.
The Thunder sit just percentage points ahead of Portland in the Western Conference with both teams being 4.5 GB of the Warriors. The ‘Blazers have had a better run of it lately, going 7-3 over their last 10 whereas Oklahoma City is 5-5 over that span.
Portland Trail Blazers
Oddsmakers are banking that fatigue is going to play a part in Tuesday’s game as they’ve made Portland 6 point road underdogs despite their strong showing as of late. Damian Lillard logged 36 minutes vs. the Jazz and CJ McCollum 38. How will 7-footer Jusuf Nurkic respond with 0 days rest after playing 31 vs. Utah.

Another reason Portland is a significant ‘dog on Tuesday is because they are on the road. The ‘Blazers offense was clicking at home with 120+ in four straight at the Moda Center. They’ve been held to under 110 their last road tilts however.
Overall Portland is 9-12 on the road this season. They’ve only played three of their last 10 outside the state of Oregon even though last night’s 5-point win in Salt Lake City came as 5 point road underdogs. Lillard had 26 to lead a balanced Trail Blazers scoring attack.

The Jazz shot 7-33 (21.2%) from three point range last night. Was it just a cold night for Utah or a strong defensive outing from Portland? OKC scores a lot of points per game (7th) but they are one of the poorer 3-point shooting teams in the league at 27th.
These two teams did meet up 17 days ago with OKC pulling off a 111-109 win in Portland. Lillard had 23 and Nurkic 22 but a down game from McCollum (10 points, 4-15 fg shooting) did in the Blazers.
Oklahoma City Thunder
As expected the Thunder beat up on the Knicks yesterday 127-109 as -9 favorites at Madison Square Garden. Paul George had 31 points to pace OKC while Dennis Schroder and Abdel Nader combined for 33 off the bench. Those contributions offset a relatively down afternoon for Russell Westbrook (17 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists).
It was Westbrook and George that fueled OKC’s win over Portland at the beginning of the month. George dropped 37 helped by going 5-9 from three point range while Westbrook had a line of 31/9/7. Schroder also had 10 in that game so could his explosiveness off the bench be an x-factor vs. a tired Portland team?

The reason yesterday’s dominating win over the Knicks was important is because Oklahoma City didn’t have to sacrifice tonight’s game in the process. For example, Westbrook logged just 28 minutes and George 30. Nine Thunder players saw at least 15 minutes of court time in a versatile OKC win.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Trail Blazers are 6-1 ATS their last seven overall
- Trail Blazers are 4-1 ATS their last five road games
- Trail Blazers are 6-1 ATS the last seven H2H meetings
Free Portland Trail Blazers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction:
Portland is in a tough spot going on consecutive nights after a tough matchup in Utah last night. Oklahoma City is on a B2B as well but they have the benefit of an early 12:30 ET start in New York yesterday and the fact that the win over the Knicks was a blowout that allowed them to rest starters. Portland has played very well lately, but can they be expected to keep that momentum going while fatigued?
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Thunder -6
OKC is too explosive and too versatile as of late. Portland relies a lot on Lillard who won’t shoot as well on the road in a back-to-back.
