Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers have been bitten by the injury bug with CJ McCollum missing a considerable amount of time the last couple weeks and Jusuf Nurkic recently being lost for the season.

Regardless of the missing players, Portland has managed to tread water going 8-2 over their last 10. Portland does come into Monday’s contest on a loss in Detroit, but they’ve played OK going away with a 19-19 record on the road this season.

Despite their injuries, the Trail Blazers still hold on to the 4 seed in the West. Portland has a two game lead on the Jazz for that 4 seed, which would mean home court in the first round of the playoffs. A win Monday over Minnesota is a must-have for the Blazers.

The reason Portland is a favorite on Monday is because of the player they still do have in the lineup, Damian Lillard. He picked up the slack in a 20 point win in Atlanta on Friday, pouring in 36 points.

The Trail Blazers have also found some depth lately. Seth Curry and Rodney Hood both played 28+ minutes off the bench on Saturday and Enes Kanter has filled in nicely for Nurkic, going for 20 and 15 the last game.

The Trail Blazers do have to be weary of fatigue on Monday. The matchup at the Target Center will be their fourth straight road game and third contest in four nights.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The T’Wolves are also in a three-games-in-four-nights situation but at least they’ve played three straight at the Target Center. Minnesota is a very solid 24-13 on their own court this season.

Minnesota is just 3-7 over their last 10, but they have gone 2-2 in their last four. That includes a 131-130 OT win over Golden State on Friday night. The victory was a team effort that saw 8 Wolves players score in double figures.

Andrew Wiggins led the win over Golden State with 24 points. Minnesota was able to get the win despite just 15 points from Karl-Anthony Towns. Wiggins also had 24 in a 9 point loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.

Minnesota has gone 1-2 vs. Portland this season but their lone win did come at the Target Center, a 112-96 win ay back in November. The teams haven’t squared off since early December when Portland tallied a 113-105 win at the Moda Center.

Towns has largely been held in check by the Blazers this year with 14, 23, and 19 points in the three contests. Will we see a major improvement from the Minnesota big man now that Nurkic is out for Portland?
