Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers have been hammered by the injury bug but still maintain the #3 seed in the West. It will be interesting to see how long they can hold on to that spot with just 8 games remaining in the regular season.
CJ McCollum had already missed time with a knee injury but the Blazers were able to endure winning all five games without their starting SG.
It’s now that things get interesting however as Jusuf Nurkic was lost for the year (and probably part of next season) with a devastating knee injury. Portland won by 20 in their first game without their C, but his loss is going to assuredly be felt moving forward.

The Trail Blazers look to ride or die with Damian Lillard for as long as they can or at least until McCollum comes back in early April. Lillard did have just 11 vs. Chicago the last game, but Portland still won 118-98 so they’ve shown at least a little bit of depth.

Portland might not even be as bad as you’d think without Nurkic. Enes Kanter is an experienced big man and Zach Collins is chomping at the bit with energy and enthusiasm. The Blazers are still -3 favorites in this one so it shows that they are at least a little bit capable, even while depleted.
Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta is firing free now that they have been officially eliminated from the postseason. The Hawks have rattled off three straight wins and have been victorious in 5 of 8. The Hawks have put up 129 and 130 points in their last two games and have scored 120+ in 4 of 7.
The O/U for Friday’s contest is listed at 234.5 which would suggest another high scoring game for Atlanta. Portland has scored at least 117 points in four consecutive outings so points should be aplenty in this one.

Atlanta has shown they have some building blocks for the future and Trae Young is definitely one of those cogs. The rookie has scored 30+ in two consecutive games and has double digit assists in four straight.
With the loss of Nurkic for Portland, the Atlanta front court should be the X-factor in this one. Dewayne Dedmon has at least 17 boards and 8 rebounds in three straight and Atlanta also has 6’10” John Collins in the starting lineup at PF. 7’1″ backup Alex Len also gets quality minutes so the Hawks should be able to control the front court.
