*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, on Saturday, March 18th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Sunday, March 19th.
Phoenix Suns
It’s not likely the Suns will rush back Kevin Durant given his history of leg injuries. Still, they’ll need to find a few games for Durant to be back in the mix in order to develop chemistry with his new teammates.
Entering this match, the Suns sit fourth with a precarious one-game edge over the Clippers and more importantly 2.5 games ahead of the Mavericks/Warriors who sit in sixth and seventh.
Stats
Phoenix averages 113.3 points per game ranking 20th while shooting 46.7% from the field and 37.6% from the perimeter ranking 22nd and sixth overall.
Defensively opponents score 111.4 points ranking fourth-best. Meanwhile, they limit opponent shooting to 46.6% from the field and 35.9% from the perimeter ranking fifth and 13th respectively.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Kevin Durant (OUT indefinitely — ankle)
- Landry Shamet PG (OUT indefinitely — foot
OKC Thunder
Keys to the Thunder’s success go far beyond the ascension of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. This young squad plays with a fast pace, moving the ball and cutting giving them one of the better offenses in the league while they are scrappy and defend well.
Although OKC has backcourt size their main weakness is the lack of a big man that can defend opposing centers and serve as a rim protector. Recently, Mark Daigneault has his team trying to attack the opposing Center to get them in foul trouble hoping to even the size differential.
That was the game plan versus the Raptors but they countered by bringing on Christian Koloko when Jakob Poeltl sat which allowed Toronto to maintain their edge throughout the game.
Stats
Offensively, the Thunder scores 117.8 points per game ranking third while shooting 46.7% from the field and 36.1% from deep ranking 21st and 15th respectively.
Meanwhile, OKC limits opponents to 116.3 points per game (20th) with them shooting 47.0% from the field and 35.9% from deep ranking 12th and 15th respectively.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Kenrich Williams SF (OUT for season— wrist)
- Aleksej Pokusevski SF (OUT indefinitely— leg)
- Chet Holmgren, PF (OUT for season— foot)

Free Phoenix Suns vs. OKC Thunder NBA Prediction:
There is never a fail-safe when it comes to betting but the Thunder are pretty close to that covering the spread on 43 occasions. They simply can’t be counted out and are even more impressive at Paycom Centre.
Granted teams with big men pose some issues and will until OKC gets Chet Holmgren integrated (and hopefully a veteran big man) when they’ll become even more dangerous.
The Suns are rolling along but their depth is being exposed as is their vacillating defensive ability. OKC should be the more desperate team and are due for one of their surprising wins so I’ll take the points.
