Wednesday, March 30th, finds the Phoenix Suns playing the Golden State Warriors for the fourth and final time this season. The Warriors lead the series 2-1 with victories on December 3rd meeting (118-96) and 25th (116-107) while the Suns won on November 30th (104-96).
Phoenix last played Sunday defeating the 76ers 114-104 while the Warriors played on Monday losing 95-123 to the Grizzlies.
Last season, the teams played three times with Phoenix winning two of the three contests. The Suns have won 143 of the 254 matches played between the clubs all-time.
Phoenix Suns
Since the Suns has sewn up the top seed in the Western Conference and will have home court throughout the playoffs it would seem like there isn’t much to play for down the stretch.
Some of the elite teams have already begun to manage their core talent’s minutes as they prepare for the postseason but Phoenix hasn’t adopted that attitude.
Instead, they continue to play their core in every game, and there seem to be two explanations for that. First, they want to obtain the best franchise record in history. That mark was set in 1992-93 and 2004-05 when Phoenix finished with a 62-20 record.
Their next win will match that mark and another two victories will give them the record. With seven games remaining and barring an absolute change from their identity that’s essentially a done deal.
The other reason for their current strategy likely has a lot to do with last season. While the Suns got to the NBA Finals many suggested they arrived at that point more out of a situation of luck as Kawhi Leonard got injured and several other teams also suffered injuries.
With Monty Williams and Chris Paul both knowing how hard it is to get to the Finals they aren’t taking any chances and intend to ride this magical season all the way to the Larry O’B.
JaVale McGee (illness) and Cam Johnson (quad) were downgraded to out Wednesday versus the Warriors. Frank Kaminsky (knee), and Dario Saric (knee) are all out indefinitely.
Golden State Warriors
Unlike the Suns, the Warriors are in the middle of a late-season malaise between the injury to Stephen Curry and the team struggling to regain their rhythm.
The return of Draymond Green hasn’t been as successful as expected as the outspoken forward cites his own struggles to get back into playing shape.
Another blow was the news James Wiseman would not be available for the varsity team after he experienced swelling in his surgically repaired knee.
The Warriors don’t want to take any chances and given what happened to Kevin Durant when he was still with the Dubs and to Klay Thompson their cautious approach is understandable.
As for Curry, the team hopes to get him back on the court prior to season end, even if just for the last game which is in New Orleans against the Pelicans.
Stephen Curry (foot) is out indefinitely. James Wiseman (knee) is out for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:

- Golden State is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 7 of Phoenix’s last 9 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Golden State’s last 6 games at home.
- Suns are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games.
- Warriors are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as a home underdog.
Free Phoenix Suns vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Of the two squads, the Warriors are the team that needs this win more. With just six games remaining for the Dubs they still have two sets of back-to-backs to play and are conscious of the fact the Mavericks are hot on their heels just one game back in the standings.
They’ll play the Jazz next and then face four lower-tier teams with the hope of staying in the third seed.
However, the Suns are like a well-oiled machine that just keeps functioning to perfection so given the way Golden State has looked lately it’s doubtful they suddenly click to fix all that ails them.
