Free Phoenix Suns vs. Boston Celtics Prediction:
Saturday, January 18th, the Phoenix Suns face the Boston Celtics for the second time this season. In the first meeting between the clubs, the Celtics won 99-85.
Last season, the teams played twice with each winning a game. The Celtics hold the all-time record having bested the Suns in 72 of their 128 matches.
With Ricky Rubio back in the lineup, the Suns played a completely different game with their offense flowing in the 121-98 victory over the Knicks. The win was their third in four games.
Several Suns had big nights in the Mecca with Deandre Ayton who got the tap to start delivering a 26 point, 21 rebound effort and Ricky Rubio joined him with a 25 point, 13 assist double-double.
Devin Booker (29), Dario Saric (11) and Cameron Johnson (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Team leaders feature Devin Booker with 26.2 points and 50.5% field goal percentage while Ricky Rubio tops the assists category with 9.4 assists. Kelly Oubre Jr. leads a trio of categories including rebounding (6.3) steals (1.5) and blocks (0.8).
Kelly Oubre Jr. is in the concussion protocol program and won’t play Saturday. Frank Kaminsky has missed eight games with a right patella stress fracture with him expected to remain out until early February.
While the Suns are finding their groove in recent games the same can’t be said of the Celtics who’ve lost five of their last seven games.
The most recent loss came against the Milwaukee Bucks with the score (128-123) not indicative of how easily Giannis Antetokounmpo and his squad dictated and won the match.
In the last two games, the Celtics have missed one of Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown and without their young wings, it proved difficult for the team to find enough defense to shut down teams or enough points to push past the Pistons or Bucks respectively.
In the loss to the Bucks, Kemba Walker did his best to carry the extra scoring burden posting 40 points and 11 rebounds and was joined by Daniel Theis who also posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Marcus Smart (24) and Jayson Tatum (17) also chipped in double-figure efforts.
Kemba Walker is the team leader in scoring (22.1) and assists (4.9) while Jayson Tatum leads rebounding (6.9) and steals (1.3). Gordon Hayward tops field goal percent (51.6%), and Daniel Theis is the blocks (1.4) leader.
Daniel Theis (knee) and Marcus Smart (ankle) are both expected to play Saturday against the Suns.
Jaylen Brown who missed the Bucks match due to a right thumb sprain remains listed as questionable. Robert Williams III (bone edema, hip) is out until late January.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Celtics are 8-2 ATS in their last 10
- The Suns are 7-3 in last 10 head to head
- Over Under is 5-5 in team’s last 10 head to head matchups
Free Phoenix Suns vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
Phoenix is on a roll and the Celtics are on a skid, but with their next two games featuring the Lakers and red hot Grizzlies desperation may kick in.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Suns plus points
If Ayton can play with the same aggression up front that will pose a problem for the Celtics and Aron Baynes will want to deliver a good performance versus his old team who essentially let him walk.
I still think the Celtics nab the victory but the Suns will keep it close.
