The 76ers are the hottest team in the NBA heading into the playoffs. Improvement was expected this season but with a young roster you have to wonder if they might have peaked too soon…it happens.
Miami grabbed the sixth spot int the East with a victory over Toronto in the final game. An interesting note about the Heat is that they have the longest NBA title odds of any team in the playoffs.
Is that because of the matchup or their quality?
The 76ers are in the playoffs for the first time since the 2011-12 season. But this is just part of the process and they seem to be a little ahead of schedule grabbing that #3 seed in the East.
The key to the series is the healthy of Joel Embiid. Right now he is not expected to play in game 1. I know they have been winning without him but continuing to do so against good team with a high level of game planning is going to be very tough.
Ben Simmons has been amazing this season, except for the fact that he can’t shoot. Again game planning gets cranked up a notch in the playoffs and you can bet the Heat are going to take away the things he likes to do.
It will be interesting to see how the whole team responds to the pressure of the playoffs. They do have a few guys with playoff experience that they might have to lean on in Amir Johnson and JJ Reddick. They are not enough though.
Dario Saric might be the wild card for the 76ers. He has a little more seasoning than some of their other young players and has been taking on more of the load with Enbiid out with an injury.
Miami had another good season and it seemed like they really wanted to avoid Toronto in the playoffs with their effort against the Raptors in the season finale. This is a good team but one with limitations.
The greatest strength of this team is their depth. They have a couple of really good players in Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside but they also have another 5 or so guys that are athletic interchangeable pieces.
When Embiid is on the floor he is going to find it tough to tangle with Whiteside. If the Heat win that matchup they will have a great chance and when Embiid is not available the 76ers do not have a great counter.
James Johnson gets the assignment for trying to contain Simmons. He has the size and athletic ability to do it and I like that he has an edge too. He might be able to get the rookie off his game.
Free Philadelphia 76ers vs. Miami Heat NBA Series Prediction:
That winning streak draws a lot of attention and rightfully so, however, is this Philly team tough enough to win against a tough team and coach.
I like the series odds for Miami and will be looking to back them in money situations too, like in game one.
