Saturday, March 5th, finds the Philadelphia 76ers facing the Miami Heat for the third of four meetings this season. Miami won the initial match on December 15th (101-96) while Philly took the January 15th match (109-98). Philly will host the last game to wrap up the regular-season series on March 21st.
Philly played the front side of a back-to-back on Friday defeating the Cavaliers 125-119 while the Heat has had a busy week with a back-to-back set on Wednesday (loss to the Bucks 119-120) and Thursday (defeated the Nets 113-107)
Last season the clubs played three times with the 76ers winning two of the three contests. The Heat holds the all-time record with 66 wins in 129 matches versus the 76ers.
Philadelphia 76ers
In his four games as a 76er, James Harden is unbeaten and the team is on a five-game win streak. On Friday the revamped team got their biggest test yet facing the Cavaliers.
Granted the Cavs are in a slump but they were a tougher opponent than the Knicks. This match will also up the stakes to serve as a litmus test depending on who plays (numerous Heat players are questionable).
Against the Cavs, the team kept rolling with Harden posting a double-double of 25 points and 11 assists while Embiid added 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Tyrese Maxey led the scoring with 33 points while Tobias Harris (15) looked closer to the version of himself than he did in Harden’s intital games with the team.
Georges Niang (17) and Shake Milton (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Philly is fully healthy.
Miami Heat
Getting through the recent schedule offered hints of how gritty this Heat team is. They played 10 of their last 14 matches on the road securing a 7-3 record and were 10-4 in that full segment.
Now they get the pleasure of home cooking returning to Miami for a seven-game homestand. In fact, 11 of their next 12 contests will take place at FTX Arena with the lone road game being in Philly.
Sometimes staying at home too long can result in a squad playing lethargic as they fall back into a routine and get comfy but the timing of this homestand and the fact it’s the Heat (read: established strong identity) is perfect timing.
The 11 games feature a balanced split of current playoff seeds versus lottery or play-in tournament seeds. Interestingly, five of the six seeded opponents are in flux. The Cavaliers and Warriors are in a bit of a tailspin.
Phoenix is dealing with Chris Paul’s injury and now Devin Booker in quarantine. While Philly and Brooklyn are integrating the players swapped in the deal.
Overall, a good time to be facing these clubs given those circumstances.
Jimmy Butler (toe), PJ Tucker (knee), Max Strus (shoulder), and Caleb Martin (Achilles) are all questionable while Kyle Lowry (personal) was downgraded to out on Saturday. Markieff Morris (conditioning) and Victor Oladipo (knee/conditioning) are out indefinitely.

Free Philadelphia 76ers vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Even the oddsmakers aren’t sure about this game essentially giving it the coin-flip odds with the one-point advantage to the home team.
While this matchup is very intriguing we won’t get a true assessment given Lowry is out, Butler and Tucker could be out as well as several other Heat players.
Fully healthy Miami has the pieces to give Philly a hard time but we’ll have to wait maybe until the last game in Philly to get a truer vision of the matchup.
Although the Heat won’t want to start the home-stand off poorly if the majority of the players on that injury report can’t go then Philly has the edge.
