Saturday, January 15th, finds the Philadelphia 76ers facing the Miami Heat in their second meeting of this season. Miami won the initial match on December 15th (101-96). The teams will play twice more this season on March 5th in Miami and March 21st in Philly.
Both teams enter having played the front side of a back-to-back set on Friday. Miami beat the Hawks 124-118 while the 76ers defeated the Celtics 111-99
Last season the clubs played three times with the 76ers winning two of the three contests. The Heat holds the all-time record with 66 wins in 128 matches versus the 76ers.
Philadelphia 76ers
Philly has this brief two-game mini road trip versus the Heat and Wizards then gets a lucky schedule segment featuring seven of eight games at home with the first six of those matches against teams under .500 (except the Lakers who are .500).
They’ll be looking to make up some ground prior to those six matches because the next five feature clubs with records over .500 and three teams with top three records (Grizzlies, Bulls, Suns).
In the victory Friday, Joel Embiid continued his recent roll of success posting a double-double of 25 points and 13 rebound plus six assists, a steal, and a block. Tobias Harris offered 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
In his second game back from protocols Tyrese Maxey scored 23 while Seth Curry chipped in 17 points as the other double-figure contributors.
Jaden Springer (quarantine), Shake Milton (back), and Danny Green (hip) are all questionable for Saturday. Ben Simmons remains out under suspension as he chooses not to participate for the 76ers and awaits a trade.
Miami Heat
The Heat began a scheduled segment on Friday that features eight of the next nine games at home prior to hitting the road for a six-game road trip. They’ll play the Raptors three times out of the next 10 contests.
Including the Friday match that starts the homestand of the next 15 games the Heat will play nine matches are against teams .500 or below.
And with the Bulls suddenly struggling the Heat will have a shot to overtake the top rung in the East having climbed with a game of the top spot. That could happen as soon as Saturday via a win by Miami and a loss by Chicago.
In the victory versus the Hawks, all five starters scored in double-figures while their Sixth Man Tyler Herro led the scoring with 24 points. More importantly, Jimmy Butler returned after a three-game absence due to an ankle sprain and delivered a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Omer Yurtseven collected his seventh double-double in his last nine matches with 17 points and 11 rebounds. PJ Tucker (17), Max Strus (16), Kyle Lowry (13), and Dewayne Dedmon (12) were the other double-figure scorers.
Marcus Garrett (quarantine) and KZ Okpala (wrist) were out Friday and likely out again Saturday. Markieff Morris (neck), Bam Adebayo (thumb), and Victor Oladipo (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Philadelphia 76ers vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Although Joel Embiid poses issues for the Heat to guard, on the opposite side of the equation Miami has far too many weapons for the 76ers to counter. And, with Butler back and the Heat having that top rung in their sights I think they’ll recognize the importance of this match.
Miami is 12-7 versus teams with records above .500 and more impressively are 9-3 against the top four seeds in each conference. In contrast, the 76ers are 9-10 against the teams above .500 and are 4-8 against the elite top-four seeds.
