Tuesday, April 5th finds the Philadelphia 76ers playing the Indiana Pacers meet for the second time this season. The teams will play twice this week with the 76ers hosting on Saturday.
The Pacers won the initial match 118-113 on November 13th so this will be the first time the clubs face each other since making major roster changes to their core at the trade deadline.
Both teams last played Sunday with the 76ers defeating the Cavaliers 112-108 while the Pacers lost 117-121 to the Pistons.
Last season, the teams played three times with the 76ers taking two of the three contests. The 76ers hold the all-time record having bested the Pacers in 103 of their 187 matches
Philadelphia 76ers
Controversy surrounded the last match of the 76ers when Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff complained post game that his team had earned and deserved the victory.
Bickerstaff who is trying to keep his Cavs afloat without the services of his two starting big men Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen was furious about the officiating.
Not only did he feel the 20 free throw trips awarded to Joel Embiid were excessive but that the whistle was biased because the calls weren’t being doled out in the same manner.
It was yet another game this season where officials have become far too much of the focus in the game. Bickerstaff noted the variance of free throws implying the calls were being awarded differently in a match where both teams delivered playoff-level intensity.
“They know how to manipulate the rules. This is no knock or disrespect to those guys. But the game has to be consistent on both ends of the floor. We were searching for that consistency and we never found it.”
Joel Embiid scored 17 of his 44 points at the line (17 of 20) collecting a double-double with his 17 rebounds. three assists, and five blocks. James Harden registered a triple-double of 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists but shot 4 of 13 from the field.

Indiana Pacers
While this season didn’t go according to plan, Kevin Pritchard may have pulled off the most surprising deal of the trade deadline. Getting the untouchable Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield from the Kings for a player they wanted to move (Domantas Sabonis) was a stroke of genius.
And while the Pacers haven’t reaped immediate rewards it might not be a terrible situation given they’ll get a decent lottery pick and if the Cavaliers make the playoffs they’ll also get their first-round pick.
It’s hard to fully assess the trade until the team is healthy and the fact Haliburton hasn’t had an opportunity to play alongside many of the core players like Myles Turner is part of that assessment.
Rookie Chris Duarte who started the season strong has also missed a ton of games as has veteran Malcolm Brogdon who you have to wonder if the Pacers will shop this offseason to build around Haliburton and Duarte.
Brogdon (conditioning) and Goga Bitadze are questionable for Tuesday. Chris Duarte (toe), Myles Turner (foot), and T.J. McConnell (wrist) are all out indefinitely. TJ Warren (foot) and Ricky Rubio (ACL) are lost for the season.
