*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Sunday, evening, March 26th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Monday, March 27th.
Philadelphia 76ers
Joel Embiid had this date circled for a while knowing if he can emulate what he did in late January in Denver and come out with the win it should cement him winning the MVP award finally.
The problem, of course, is the 76ers are in a bit of a funk with all the travel catching up to them. They’ve lost three of the last four while James Harden hasn’t played in the last three matches (and four of the last five) as he nurses a sore Achilles.
Stats
So far this season, the 76ers score an average of 115.2 points per game ranking 14th. Philly shoots 48.6% from the field and 38.8% from the perimeter, ranking eighth and second respectively.
What’s more, defense is where the 76ers make their mark allowing the third-fewest opponent points per game with 110.5. They hold opponents to 47% from the field ranking 10th and 34.6% from deep or the fourth-best perimeter defense.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Joel Embiid, C (questionable —calf tightness)
- Jalen McDaniels PF (questionable —hip)
- James Harden SG (questionable — Achilles)
- Danuel House Jr., SF (questionable —shoulder)
- Louis King, SF (OUT —G League, two-way)
- Mac McClung, SG (OUT —G League, two-way)
Denver Nuggets
So much for the Nuggets’ brief slip being a reason to abandon ship. Not only have they won four of five they beat the Nuggets and collected enough wins on the recent trip to push them above .500 on the road — something only the Kings have also done in the West.
Also important, is the play of Jamal Murray who looks as close to his former injury self as he has since returning to the hardwood.
MVP Watch
When the Nuggets suffered the mild slump, Embiid seemingly surged ahead but things can change quickly as the Sixers lost to Golden State Friday and again to the Suns on Saturday (their third loss in four games).
Plus the big man is dealing with some nagging injuries which could reopen the door for Jokic especially if he wins this match after also beating Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks on Saturday.
Stats
On the positive side, Denver possesses one of the two best offenses in the league highlighted by scoring 116.9 points per game ranking seventh. Denver is shooting the best field goal percentage of 50.8% as well as the second-best perimeter efficiency of 38.7%.
Very quickly the Nuggets have regained their defensive chops improving in all three categories this past week. Denver allows opponents to score 112.7 points per game which ranks 11th while limiting foes to 48.1% from the field and 34.5% from deep ranking 21st and third respectively.
A week ago they ranked 13th, 23rd, and sixth respectively which speaks to them getting back on track.
Injury Report
- Michael Porter Jr., SF (questionable — left heel; injury management)
- Jack White, SF (OUT— Health and Safety Protocols)
- Collin Gillespie PG (OUT—leg fracture)

Free Philadelphia 76ers vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction:
Suffice to say whoever wins this game will push their superstar to the top of the MVP race. Embiid might still have a shot but with the hardest closing schedule, a loss in Denver would make it an uphill battle.
I’ve ridden the Nuggets train since preseason and I’m not about to get off so take the Nuggets to cover.
