On Saturday, October 29th, the Philadelphia 76ers are on the road to face the Chicago Bulls for the first time this season. The clubs are scheduled to play four matches with Chicago hosting again on March 22nd and Philly playing host on January 6th and March 20th.
Both teams played the front side of a back-to-back set on Friday with the 76ers pummeling the Raptors (112-90) and the Bulls falling to the Spurs (124-129).

The 76ers announced Joel Embiid wouldn’t play on Friday to rest his sore knee. It was a bit of a curve ball given the only injury that’s been discussed was his plantar fasciitis.
Doc Rivers blew it off stating we never know one day from the next whether Joel will play. It felt like gas lighting and a way to mess up Nick Nurse last minute as they scrambled to adjust.
It worked!
As I noted in the prior preview if I were Daryl Morey I’d have built the team around Joel Embiid and Maxey instead of investing massive money in James Harden.
Maxey’s performance on Friday offered all the evidence I need to reiterate that belief. Players often have one team they love to play and clearly, the young guard’s favorite is Toronto.
The question is how he would fare given he’d be a bigger part of the Raptors’ defensive scheme with the big man out. – – and it didn’t matter in the slightest! Between Fred VanVleet looking like he was ailing and the last-minute adjustment nothing Toronto did made a difference.
Maxey recorded a career-best 44 points, nailing nine of his 12 deep balls, and added eight rebounds, plus four assists.
Chicago Bulls
DeMar DeRozan faced his former team on Friday without Zach LaVine in the lineup in what turned out to be a bittersweet evening.
The mid-range assassin reached a benchmark becoming the 50th player in NBA history to score 20,000 points. It’s a major accomplishment but would’ve been so much sweeter had it occurred attached to a victory instead of a loss.
DeRozan led the way for the Bulls with 33 points. Andre Drummond registered a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Coby White (19), Ayo Dosunmu (12) and Patrick Williams (10) were the other double-figure contributors.

This is a really tough match to predict especially given both Embiid and LaVine are listed as questionable. Rivers won’t say one way or another until the last minute in gamesmanship because it forces Billy Donovan to prepare his team for two different styles of play.
Although Harden is the primary ball handler and typically likes to call his own number, I wonder after the two games in Toronto if Doc will shift the offensive dynamic to make Maxey the secondary option (behind Embiid).
Regardless of where Maxey lands in the pecking order, it became clear Philly needs to play with more pace and move the ball like they did on Friday.
