Joe Mazzulla replaced Ime Udoka initially with an interim title but in mid-February Stevens cemented the position and that may have been a bit precipitous.
Case in point, Udoka emphasized defense while Mazzulla’s focus is offense and more importantly the Celtics have appeared to take teams for granted. Worse, defensively they aren’t locked in which was evident in the two losses to the Hawks and again in the opener versus the 76ers.
It’s inexcusable for a team as talented as the Celts to lose Game 1 without Embiid or never attempt to get the ball out of Harden’s hands.
Mazzulla made zero adjustments on Harden and didn’t have Derrick White (arguably his best guard defender) on the court at the end of the game.

On the positive side, Boston claims the fourth-best point production averaging 117.9 points per game. In terms of efficiency, they shoot 47.5% from the field and 37.6% from the perimeter ranking 15th and sixth respectively.

It’s concerning they’re acting like they can just flip a switch when they feel like it and you have to wonder if they’ll inevitably pay a price for that choice. That said, I do believe they’ll win this match by a convincing margin but just short of the spread.
