Monday, February 14th finds the Orlando Magic playing the Denver Nuggets for the second and final time this season. Orlando won the initial meeting 108-103 on December 1st.
The Magic last played Saturday getting blown out 105-132 to the Suns while the Nuggets defeated the Raptors 110-109 in a slugfest on Friday.
In a rarity, the two clubs have each won 33 times in the 66 all-time matches they’ve played against each other. Last season the squads played twice with Denver winning both contests.
Orlando Magic
Although the Magic have just 13 wins this season, one came versus this Nuggets squad back in early December with Nikola Jokic in the lineup.
Cole Anthony was having a hot shooting streak at that time and it was before Orlando got hit by COVID and injury. Anthony scored 24 points against Denver and was joined by five of his teammates.
That scoring prowess wasn’t on hand Saturday when the Suns ran them out of the building showcasing the spectrum of the NBA teams as they sit atop the ladder and the Magic fight the Pistons for futility at the bottom.
In the loss to the Suns, Wendell Carter Jr. led the scoring with 22 points plus nine rebounds while Anthony scored 18. Mo Bamba offered 16 points and eight rebounds while Terrence Ross was the only other double-figure contributor with 11 points off the bench.
Mo Wagner (ribs) was downgraded to out versus the Nuggets on Monday. Jonathan Isaac (knee), Markelle Fultz (knee), RJ Hampton (knee), and Bol Bol (foot) are all out indefinitely.
Denver Nuggets
This past weekend featured a back-to-back set the Nuggets split but facing two similar opponents who happened to be the hottest teams in the East.
They lost the initial match to the Celtics who now have an eight-game winning streak and then a night later beat the Raptors by a point ending their eight-game winning streak.
Nikola Jokic started the match on fire as none of the Raptors could stop the reigning MVP although they had their own issues with Pascal Siakam who went blow for blow with the Joker.
They also got an extremely friendly whistle particularly on some no calls including a goaltend on a dunk and Facundo Campazzo got away with a blatant foul at center court.
In a one-point game it was all they needed to capture the victory as Siakam, Anunoby and Trent Jr. combined to attempt 50 shots primarily in the paint but took zero free throws. Hey, sometimes having a friendly whistle is the added luck you need.
Jokic delivered a double-double of 28 points and 15 rebounds plus six assists while Jeff Green scored 19 and all five starters reached double-digit scoring. ‘
Zeke Nnaji (hamstring) is questionable versus the Magic on Monday. Monte Morris (concussion) is out indefinitely. Vlatko Cancar (fractured foot), and Jamal Murry (ACL) are out indefinitely while Michael Porter Jr. (back surgery) is presumed out for the season.

Free Orlando Magic vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction
Denver sort of lucked out facing two very similar teams who are long and defensive in the Celtics and Raptors.
What was noticeable in those matches is the Nuggets are an underrated defensive squad and the fact they were able to adapt playing in a back-to-back speaks to Michael Malone and his staff’s ability as well as the players.
If the rumors last week that Jamal Murray is nearing a return (and that Michael Porter Jr. may also be back this year) are true this Nuggets team is going to be rising up that ladder.
