It’s a showdown of the NBA best and worst offenses as the Orlando Magic arrives to complete the second game of a back to back series versus the Dallas Mavericks and their top ranked offense.
Last season, the squads split their two meetings. The Mavericks hold the all-time record having bested the Magic in 34 of their 61 matches.

After finishing last season on a terror in the stretch run the Magic returned this season seemingly forgetting how to score. Through six games Orlando has yet to break the 100 point barrier.

As good as they are defensively (5th), not being able to put points on the board is costing them dearly.
Aaron Gordon has struggled averaging 11.3 points, 3.0 assists, and 6.3 rebounds per game. For a $20 million player the Magic need more from him. He took strides in the last game however, scoring over 20 points for the first time this year.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Jonathan Isaac is demonstrating palpable growth. He’s averaging 10.5 points, 6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 2.5 blocks and is shooting 37.5 percent from deep on four attempts per game.
Yet it’s his intangibles and growth potential which are exciting. The problem is what that means for Mo Bamba and Gordon since Clifford has yet to demonstrate how that trio can excel on the floor together.
The big news is the ascendence of Markelle Fultz who was moved into the starting rotation for the last game.
Michael Carter-Williams (hip contusion) is probable after missing the last two games while Melvin Fraizer Jr (shoulder) is questionable.
Dallas Mavericks
Although it’s likely far too early to include Luka Doncic in any sort of MVP talk he should be a Most Improved Player candidate. He’s leading the Mavericks in points (26.7), assists (9.5) and rebounds (10.3).

This begs the question of whether he’ll channel Russell Westbrook and average a triple-double either this year or in the near future. Clearly, the new partnership with Kristaps Porzingis while still early in their relationship is meshing nicely.
The Zinger is averaging 20.5 points, 2.2 assists, 8.2 rebounds and using his 7’2″ frame for 2.7 blocks per game.
The question in Dallas is whether an existing player can become the third wheel to the super duo or if Donnie Nelson will need to go outside to add another asset.
The hope was for Tim Hardaway Jr. to take on a bigger role but so far it’s been the wunderkids and then a team effort with whoever is hot becoming the third scoring option. The good news is the balanced scoring is working with seven other players scoring at least 8.7 points per game.
That fact was showcased in the win over the Cavaliers with seven players scoring in double-digits.
In terms of injuries, Maxi Kleber missed the last game and is questionable for this match while JJ Barea continues to rehab his Achilles injury.
