Monday, March 28th the Orlando Magic face the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second of three scheduled meetings this season. Cleveland won the initial meeting 105-92 on November 27th. Orlando will host the final meeting on April 5th.
Both teams played and lost on Saturday with the Magic falling 110-114 to the Kings in overtime while the Cavaliers lost 94-98 to the Bulls.
Last season the teams played three times with the Magic sweeping the series and prior to the recent loss held a seven-game win streak dating back to March 14th of 2019. The Magic holds the all-time record having bested the Cavaliers in 58 of their 116 matches.
Orlando Magic
After falling behind 41-28 in the opening frame the Magic battled back against the Kings to make a game of it and took a lead that eventually was erased forcing overtime to decide the contest.
Rookie Franz Wagner led the way with 19 points while Mo Bamba served up a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds along with two blocks and a steal.
Cole Anthony offered a complete effort with 14 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. Markelle Fultz and Mo Wagner were the other double-digit contributors with 16 and 15 points respectively.
Wendell Carter Jr. (wrist) was upgraded to probable while Jalen Suggs (ankle) was downgraded to out Monday. Jonathan Isaac (knee) and Bol Bol (foot) are out for the season.
Cleveland Cavaliers
While not having Jarrett Allen has been problematic for the Cavaliers the season actually took a turn just prior to the All-Star break when Cleveland entered the break on a two-game losing streak which continued the first game back.
Since February 12th the Cavs are 6-12 and have not been able to surprise opponents anymore. On nights when they aren’t clicking defensively for a full 48 minutes opponents are able to get the best of them since they aren’t a high-scoring team in the first place.
That finally caught up to them this past week with consecutive losses to the Lakers, Raptors, and Bulls, with the latter two situations the worst case scenario as those are the two teams they are fighting for the fifth through seventh seeds.
By virtue of the losses they fell into the play-in position (seventh) and have to hope they can make up the game over Toronto and two versus the Bulls in the next eight matches.
Cleveland will split the next eight games between home and road with only two easy matches – – both against the Magic.
The other six contests feature other play-in seeds (Hawks, Nets), teams jockeying for higher playoff berths (Mavericks, 76ers, Bucks), and the Knicks who are enjoying playing spoiler.
In contrast, the Bulls have three road games and five home dates but have a tougher slate of opponents while the Raptors just two road games of their final eight matches and the easiest opponent slate.
Rajon Rondo (ankle) and Dean Wade (knee) were downgraded to out Monday. Allen (finger) is out indefinitely.

Free Orlando Magic vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction
Although the Magic are lottery-bound they are a squad with length and frankly a lot of fun to watch based on their compete level and zest for the game.
The Cavaliers should be able to take this match but can’t underestimate the Magic, especially with Carter Jr. expected back in the lineup as he and Bamba will counter the size of the Cavs frontcourt, particularly with Allen sidelined.
