The Thunder won on Tuesday and the Spurs lost. They are separated by one game, on either side of .500, three weeks into the still so very young NBA season and I’m thinking it’ll be a fairly competitive game in San Antonio on Thursday.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder is 3–4, in last place, and likely to stay there all season, given how tough the Northwest Division is.
But nothing has been a disaster yet. OKC has actually outscored its opponents by a combined twenty-three points so far this season, thanks to a 28-point blowout of the Warriors and three close losses (five points in Utah, four in Houston, and three vs. Portland).

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is putting up big numbers at the start of his sophomore season, if not blossoming into a star. He’s up over twenty-two points per game and scored a game-high twenty-four in OKC’s eight-point win over Orlando on Tuesday.
Danilo Gallinari is healthy so far and playing good basketball, as he does when he’s healthy. Problem is, he’s missed at least twenty games in eight of his eleven NBA seasons and at least ten in all but one.
Chris Paul’s track record is better but he’s missed at least twenty games for three years running now, too. Eventually, he and Gallinari will miss games but, for the time being, they make the Thunder watchable.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs showed their limitations in a 108–100 loss in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Trae Young was the best player on the floor but he was playing for the other team. All too often, and especially in the playoffs, that’s going to be the case in games involving the Spurs.
DeJounte Murray was unusually quiet in nineteen minutes and didn’t do much to stop Young, who went off for twenty-nine and thirteen assists.
So give the Spurs three losses, two to top teams and the third to a good one on the road, by an average of seven points.
San Antonio can play with every team in the league and will consistently beat the bad ones. OKC has potential to be bad later in the season if Paul, Gallinari, or both get hurt. For now, though, they are a nice little veteran duo to help Alexander. Don’t forget Steven Adams in the paint.
