Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder beat the Magic in Orlando on Tuesday and got two days off in Miami to celebrate its six-game winning streak. That could prove problematic ahead of Friday night’s tilt with the Heat.
But things could be worse. As I said, the Thunder has won six in a row after a tough run in the middle of January. It also won on Tuesday without both Steven Adams and Terrence Ferguson, who both rested minor injuries.
Nerlens Noel stepped in for Adams and played 34 minutes, grabbing seven boards, blocking five shots and scoring 12 points to finish a +12. The rookie Hamidou Diallo played over 17 minutes in Ferguson’s spot and scored seven points on 3-of-5 from the field and, most importantly, didn’t turn it over.
Jerami Grant also picked up the slack with 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Grant has been a stalwart for OKC this season, playing over 32 minutes per game and averaging 13 points on efficient shooting splits, five rebounds and 2.3 steals+blocks.
Adams was questionable on Tuesday so I’m going to assume he goes after a few days off on the beach. Ferguson is pretty much replacement-level, anyway.
Speaking of replacement-level, the Miami Heat are pretty much a team made up of interchangeable guys, perhaps all a tad better than replacement-level but not much.
That’s why the first-place Heat (despite a record under .500) has shuffled so many lineups. Most recently, Dion Waiters and Tyler Johnson have played their way into a spot in Eric Spolestra’s preferred rotation.
Johnson played 28 minutes off the bench, despite being listed as questionable, on Wednesday and scored 15. Waiters scored six with five assists and four rebounds in 18 minutes.
Miami’s depth did help on Wednesday night against Chicago because Derrick Jones Jr., Dwyane Wade and Goran Dragic were all out. Dragic has been out and Jones is out for six weeks. Wade could be back soon after getting his knee some rest.
Then again, it didn’t because the 40-loss Bulls won in Miami by 16 points. Wayne Ellington, who hadn’t even been playing of late, started and scored 13 points. James Johnson continued to struggle with just two points as a starting forward.
The Heat is a tough team to gauge because you hardly know who’s going to get big minutes and who will have the hot hand. OKC is hot and Miami just got walloped by the Bulls but don’t sleep on the Heat in a bounce-back spot.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Over is 9-2 in OKC last 11 overall.
- Under is 23-10 in MIA last 33 Fri. games.
- Under is 9-0 in the last 9 meetings.
Free Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction: Miami covers as a home ‘dog.
The Heat is going to be catching some points here and it has the depth to wear OKC down. I’m going to take a shot with Miami.
