Wednesday, April 6th, the OKC Thunder and Utah Jazz will meet for the fourth and final time. Utah will be seeking the regular-season series sweep having won all three prior meetings including October 20th (107-86), November 24th (110-104), and March 6th (116-103).
Both clubs are played Tuesday in the front side of a back-to-back set with the Thunder beating the Trail Blazers 98-94 and the Jazz hosting the Grizzlies.
All-time the Thunder holds the advantage of winning 112 of 197 matches. Last season the teams played three times with the Jazz sweeping the regular-season series.
OKC Thunder
So much for sitting most of your core in order to tank! In spite of their best efforts, the Thunder still compete to the buzzer and that led to a victory on Tuesday versus the Blazers.
In fact, the team that was trying to lose enough to fall into the bottom three has won four times in the last seven matches and twice in a row.
Oklahoma City ranks 14th defensively which is a big reason why Mark Daigneault’s ‘B’ squad is in so many games.
Sam Presti has a closet full of draft picks but this will be the second consecutive season where they struggle to play poorly enough to earn one of the three bottom seeds in order to increase OKC’s draft lottery chances to nab the top draft pick.
Not that the team didn’t do almost everything conceivable to improve their chances of losing including missing nine starters or core players who are out injured and not expected to play again this season.
Each of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (ankle), Derrick Favors (back), Kenrich Williams (knee), Josh Giddey (hip), Darius Bazley (knee), Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (foot) Luguentz Dort (shoulder), Mike Muscala (ankle), and Ty Jerome (hip) are shut done for the season.
OKC will finish the season away from home on a three-game road trip featuring the Jazz, Lakers, and Clippers.
Tre Mann (hamstring) was downgraded to out Tuesday so is likely questionable for Wednesday.
Utah Jazz
Since the All-Star break, the Jazz have played 21 times winning 11 and losing 10. Not exactly the type of momentum Quin Snyder wants his group dragging like a bad smell into the postseason.
A glance at their recent games offers evidence something is amiss. Utah won their last contest but needed overtime against the Grizzlies who didn’t have Ja Morant or Dillon Brooks. They’ve also made a bad habit of losing games they should win (or lead by 20 plus points).
In the victory versus the Grizzlies, Rudy Gobert registered a massive double-double of 22 points and 21 rebounds. Donovan Mitchell offered 20 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Trent Forrest (concussion) was downgraded to out Wednesday. Udoka Azubuike (ankle) is lost for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Oklahoma City is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games.

- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Oklahoma City’s last 6 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 12 of Utah’s last 18 games.
- Oklahoma City is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games on the road.
- The Jazz is 8-3-2 ATS in their last 13 games as a home favorite.
Free OKC Thunder vs. Utah Jazz NBA Analysis:
OKC currently is 27th and can’t fail enough to unseed the Rockets or Magic who have 60 and 59 losses but if the Pistons keep beating teams the Thunder could steal their 28th seed and grab one of the coveted three spots that get the best odds to win the draft lottery.
The Jazz is on the other end of the spectrum headed back to the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season but flailing wildly down the stretch.
Their preference would be to gain home court because of the advantage of playing at high altitude but that seems highly unlikely with three games left and the Mavericks two games up. Denver is right behind them by a half-game so they could still drop to sixth.
While they can’t fix everything in three games at least a game against the Thunder should offer an easy win.
