Saturday, February 5th, finds the OKC Thunder and Sacramento Kings playing for the third of four matches this season. The teams have split the two prior contests with the Thunder taking the November 12th match 105-103 and the Kings winning on December 28th, 117-111.
The Thunder will play host to the final match between the clubs on February 28th.
OKC is playing a back-to-back set having played the Blazers on Friday while the Kings last played on Thursday losing 114-126 to the Warriors.
Last season, the squads played three times with Sacramento sweeping the regular-season series. The Thunder holds the all-time record having bested the Kings in 149 of their 243 matches.
OKC Thunder
So much for tanking! The Thunder arrive at this match having won three games in a row including two versus the Blazers and also the Mavericks.
This is in spite of being shorthanded without their cornerstone Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or their ever-improving big man Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and others.
Granted the Thunder caught a bit of a lucky break with the Blazers trading two of their core (Norman Powell, Robert Covington) to the Clippers which left Portland without much depth in this match.
Luguentz Dort took the lead for his young club posting 23 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a block. Five of his teammates also registered double-digit scoring including rookie Josh Giddey with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
The other quartet included Diakite (12) and the older members of the squad Mike Muscala (11), Ty Jerome (11), and Kenrich Williams (10).
Isaiah Roby (ankle) is questionable while Aaron Wiggins (ankle) was ruled out Friday so presumably won’t play Saturday either.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (ankle) will be out until after the All-Star break while Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (foot) and Vit Krejci (ankle) are out indefinitely.
Sacramento Kings
As the Clippers and Blazers got into the trade action you have to wonder if the Kings are paying attention recognizing they may need to get involved before the trade deadline if they want to have an impact on what happens this season.
Although Sacramento is mired in the cellar, holding the 13th seed 23.5 games out of first because the West has struggled so much they are also only 2.5 games out of the final play-in seed.
Would getting to play in one play-in game quench the fan base who has been waiting 15 years for their team to return to the postseason? Or should they shuffle the deck and try to join the tanking clubs with a view of yet again rebuilding.
If they chose the latter presumably the player they would center their efforts around would be Tyrese Haliburton who at present is the only player on the roster who would appear to be untouchable.
The Kings have several viable assets they could move but would adding mid to late first-round draft picks do much to get them back into the playoff conversation next season? Suffice to say there is much to be decided in the coming week.
De’Aaron Fox (ankle) and Marvin Bagley III (ankle) are questionable for Saturday. Terence Davis (wrist) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Kings are 6-4 in their last 10 meetings against each other
- The teams are 5-5 ATS in the last 10 matches
- The over/under is 4-4-2 in the teams last 10 head to head matches
Free OKC Thunder vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
Sacramento has the rest advantage but can’t take this Thunder team for granted as they won’t simply raise a white flag just because they are supposed to be tanking or because they fall behind by 20.
The Kings should win this match but they’ll need to put in the work to get the early lead and maintain their focus throughout to net the “W”.
