Grab the brooms as the OKC Thunder look to sweep the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday after taking a commanding 3-0 series lead following a 106-85 victory on Saturday.
Season Series
The Pelicans won three of the four matches between the Western Conference rivals last season but the Thunder reversed the fortune this season taking two of the three contests. Oklahoma City holds the all-time record between the squads with 42 victories in 74 matches.
This is the first time in franchise history these clubs will face each other in the postseason.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Sunday, April 28th Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Monday, April 29th.
OKC Thunder
While several media personalities suggested some veteran clubs should try to align with the Thunder the youngsters have showcased just how much poise they have.
After shaking off the jitters in an ugly Game 1 win, they’ve had consecutive dominant victories proving why they won the top seed in the talented West.
Freshly anointed Head Coach of the Year Mark Daigneault reminds me of a younger version of Erik Spoelstra (who STILL hasn’t won CoY).
Clubs typically take on the personality of their leader and/or coach, and in the case of the Thunder both Daigneault and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have that calm confidence that resonates throughout the roster.
Thunder Stats
The Thunder ranks third on offense (118.3), and fourth on defense (111.0) while they offer a plus +7.3 net differential registering second overall.
Through their third game of the playoffs, OKC ranks seventh offensively (113.3) and first defensively (94.7) with a plus +18.6 net differential also ranking first overall.
In terms of the Thunder’s performance against the spread, they are one of the better bets this season with a 48-36-1 record.
Thunder Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- NO injuries reported
New Orleans Pelicans
Through three games the Pelicans just haven’t been able to counter the Thunder offense averaging a playoff low of 89.6 points per game and haven’t broken the century mark yet.
Presumably, this definitely would’ve been a tougher series had Zion Williamson been available, and it’s unfortunate fans didn’t get to witness how this series would’ve played out had he been healthy.
Still, the Pels are deep but they’ve looked snake-bitten and just haven’t brought much grit to the hardwood. Combine that with the fact Brandon Ingram, CJ McCollum. and Trey Murphy III haven’t been able to all produce in the same game.
Pelicans Stats
The Pelicans rank 11th offensively (116.5), and sixth defensively (111.9) while posting a plus +4.6 net differential that also ranks sixth overall.
Through their second game of the playoffs, the Pelicans rank 16th offensively (94.7) and 10th defensively (113.3) with a minus -18.6 net differential also ranked last..
New Orleans rode just above the middle with a 45-40-2 record against the spread through 87 contests.
Pelicans Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Zion Williamson, PF (OUT indefinitely— hamstring)
- Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, SF (questionable— ankle)

Free OKC Thunder vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction:
The hardest single game to win is the close-out match in a series, especially for inexperienced clubs. In the opener, the young Thunder demonstrated nerves so it will be interesting to see what happens if the Pels can keep the score close.
Conversely, New Orleans can play freely because they have nothing to lose, except the pride of being swept.
Given the Thunder have kept New Orleans under 100 in every game I’m betting they’ll take care of business and send the Pels fishing.
