The last time these clubs met, there was a buzz in the air about how the Lakers were playing. Shortly after the tip, that buzz was gone as the Thunder reminded fans and pundits alike that there are levels to this game. And, OKC is definitely in that top level.
As for the Lakers, we may never know how legit they could’ve been because, without Doncic and Reeves for what appears to be weeks, their hopes of advancing are all but shattered.
Thankfully there are no back-to-back games in the playoffs where the Thunder displayed a rare weakness (6-7). Fortunately, they’ll have rest and in those matches are 56-9 while outscoring their opponents by 14.7 points.
The last time these clubs met, the Thunder spanked the Lakers, and that was with Doncic playing! They have a vested interest in winning this match to sew up the top seed.
But there are alternative motives for OKC who would prefer to face the Lakers over the Nuggets in the second round (assuming LA can get out of the first round). That would leave the Nuggets and Spurs to beat up on each other, while the Thunder would definitely get the easier opponent.
With that, and even without Jalen Williams playing, I’ll take the Thunder to win and cover.
