Thursday, the NBA serves up a nine-game slate, including the OKC Thunder versus the Houston Rockets.
OKC arrives, having finally solved the San Antonio Spurs with a blowout 119-98 victory on Tuesday. While the first half was even, the Thunder clamped down in the third quarter, scoring 40 points (vs. 24) to cement an easier win.
Five Thunder players scored in double figures with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way, scoring 34 points plus five rebounds, five assists, and four blocks. Jalen Williams had a better performance than in the previous encounters versus the Spurs, registering 20 points and providing lockdown defense.
Houston got back in the win column after three consecutive losses, defeating the Chicago Bulls 119-113. Four Rockets scored in double digits, with the starters leading the way.
Kevin Durant registered a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, Alperen Sengun also delivered a double-double of 23 points and 11 assists, while Amen Thompson pitched in 23 points.

Say what you will about Dillon Brooks, but it’s hard to deny the facts. Last year, the Rockets were a solid road team, winning more than they lost (23-17).
But, this year they have struggled on the road, particularly recently (3-10 in 13 road games since December 1st). At home, it’s a completely different story as they have only lost twice in 14 contests. Brooks was an agitator, and it didn’t matter if they were at home or away, but who has taken over that mantle this season? The answer is no one!
Since they’ll only play three games against OKC, and the last one is on their floor, this becomes a must-win if the Rockets want any shot at winning the season series.

Here is my Thunder Rockets free pick. OKC looked like the team that began the season 24-1 in their victory on Tuesday after a sluggish start to the New Year.
Then again, the Thunder are 8-2 in the last 10 games, so perhaps our threshold for them is a bit stricter given their roster and capabilities.
Conversely, Houston truly has struggled in the New Year, but their losses are directly related to the venue they are playing in.
It will be interesting to see which player gets the nod in Houston for the All-Star Game because each of Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun are having big seasons. It’s unlikely both get the nod especially since they’ve slipped down the ladder.
It’s a bit surprising the Thunder get the oddsmakers nod given the Rockets dominance at home, but recency bias may be playing a factor.
I’ll give the Rockets the benefit of the doubt and take the points but OKC to win.
