The OKC Thunder face the Dallas Mavericks for the fourth and final time this season on Wednesday, February 2nd. Dallas will be seeking the season sweep with wins on December 12th (103-84), January 2nd (95-86), and January 17th (104-102).
The shorthanded Thunder defeated the Blazers 98-81 in their last match on Monday while the Mavericks lost 108-110 in a shocker to the Magic on Sunday.
Last season, the squads played three times with Dallas winning two of the three contests. The Thunder holds the advantage all-time having won 84 times of the club’s 166 meetings.
OKC Thunder
The losing streak came to an end with the victory versus the Blazers but the Thunder aren’t likely to go on a run of wins given their cornerstone Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is out until after the All-Star break.
Rookie Josh Giddey has lived up to the hype and already demonstrated the backcourt for the future is set in OKC. Giddey won another Rookie of the Month award for January and will participate in the revamped Rising Stars Game during All-Star weekend.
The Australian guard is averaging 11.6 points, 6.1 assists, and 7.6 rebounds. He also became the youngest in NBA history to record a triple-double.
Unlike most teams, the Thunder won’t be seeking to get immediate help at the trade deadline. By the same token despite having a draft cupboard full of picks VP Sam Presti will likely try to move Derrick Favors for more picks.
Kenrich Williams could be a player several teams are interested in and for that matter so is Mike Muscala who can play either forward role or sub in a small-ball center with range.
Isaiah Roby (ankle) was downgraded to out. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (ankle) and Vit Krejci (ankle) are both out indefinitely.
Dallas Mavericks
One of the current hottest teams in the association the Mavericks had a productive January and as a result, vaulted up to the fifth seed and are only one game back of a suddenly spiraling fourth-seeded Jazz squad.
Their win streak came to an end versus Orlando so you know Jason Kidd will have them dialed in to make sure they don’t cough up another game to a tanking team.
They begin a season-high six-game homestand that will feature a bit of everything — two lottery teams (Thunder, Pistons), a middling team (Clippers x two), an elite squad (76ers), and a recent riser (Hawks).
Based on how well the Mavericks have played they should do well, but by the same token, the loss of Tim Hardaway Jr. and the recent injury to Kristaps Porzingis means they’ll need to keep focused as they endeavor to overtake the Jazz who are now only one game ahead of them in the win column.
Porzingis (knee) and Sterling Brown (foot) were downgraded to out Wednesday while Tim Hardaway Jr. underwent surgery to repair a foot fracture and will be out indefinitely.

Free OKC Thunder vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Prediction:
Although you can never count out the Thunder, having just lost a trap game to the Magic it’s unlikely the Mavs commit that sin twice in a row. Still, 12 points are simply too much even with a dialed-in Luka so I’d suggest taking the points and the Thunder but the Mavs to win..
