Thunder vs. Cavaliers Gameday

Martin Luther King Jr. Day serves up nine contests on the NBA slate, including the OKC Thunder and the Cleveland Cavaliers in an afternoon matinee.

OKC is coming off a rare loss as they fell 120-122 to the Miami Heat on Saturday. Four Thunder players scored in double figures, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who registered 39 points with four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Chet Holmgren registered a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Cleveland is coming off a baseball sweep of the Philadelphia 76ers, with the Friday match being a close 117-115 final. Six Cavaliers scored in double figures, led by Jaylon Tyson with 39 points, while Donovan Mitchell registered a double-double of 14 points and 12 assists, plus nine rebounds.

OKC Thunder vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Odds & Last 5

Head-to-head last year, the teams split the regular season series, each winning once. This is the first of two meetings this season.

The loss to the Heat ended a five-game winning streak for OKC. They still haven’t registered double-figure losses despite having passed the halfway mark of the season. They sit atop the association with a 35-8 record.

Cleveland has seemingly turned a corner now that they are healthier and are 3-2 through their last five games. The Cavs sit in the sixth seed with a record of 24-19. The Cavaliers will play seven of their next 10 contests after today on the road.

The Thunder are favored to win by 6.5 points with an over/under of 234.5 points.

Cleveland will need to be very intentional with their passing as the Thunder tops the league in points scored off turnovers. OKC also commits the fewest turnovers, so the Cavs won’t get many free points that way.

Neither team is great on the boards, so whoever owns the glass will have an advantage.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues his march to history scoring 20 points consecutively in 113 contests.  

I’m a little surprised the spread is as low as it is, given the Thunder lost their last match. Granted the Heat aren’t as talented as the Cavs, but still, after a loss, I like OKC to come back and beast.
