Friday, October 28th the New York Knicks play the Milwaukee Bucks for the first time of three meetings this season. New York will host the other two matches on November 30th and January 9th.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Knicks defeating the Hornets 134-131 while the Bucks beat the Nets 110-99.
Last season, the teams played four times with the Bucks winning three of the four contests. The Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the Knicks in 119 of their 224 matches

The fans in the Mecca are delighted to witness their team’s seeming return to being a playoff contender and more than happy to bury the ghosts of last season’s heartache. It’s especially fulfilling to watch their cross-town rival Nets struggle to start the season with a 1-4 record.
And while I hate to be the bearer of bad news – I’d suggest tempering that enthusiasm or at least lower expectations until we get a better gauge of how the team performs against higher-end competition.
Case in point, the Knicks’ trio of victories came versus the Pistons, Magic, and in overtime versus the Hornets — all teams expected to pull up the basement seeding in the East.
Granted they pushed the Grizzlies to overtime to start the season but that was also Game 1 so teams weren’t aware of how the Knicks’ new roster would look or what head coach Tom Thibodeau would be running for his offensive and defensive game plans.
Now, that’s not to say this Knicks roster isn’t capable of being in the mix, I’m just cautioning that we need to see how they perform versus the elite so this match in particular will be very telling.
Thibs’ minute allocation is another thing to keep an eye on especially the youngsters — Cam Reddish’s minutes are up (14.3 to 21. 5) but both Immanuel Quickly (23.1 to 21.5) and Obi Toppin (17.1 to 15.3) are down and that’s prior to Quentin Grimes return (which may occur on Friday).
Milwaukee Bucks
While most national scribes and sports shows focus on the LA or New York teams and temper it with commentary on the Suns, Warriors, 76ers, and other large markets the Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo are quietly going about their business content to be an afterthought.
Milwaukee sits atop the Eastern Conference and is the only team in the Association yet to lose a game – – mind you they’ve only played three games but in fairness, they can only play the games on the schedule.
The Bucks’ matches haven’t necessarily been tough either with victories versus the 76ers, Rockets, and Nets and while Philly/Brooklyn are considered to be playoff/title contenders they’ve struggled out of the gate.
Still, Milwaukee is missing their secondary producer Khris Middleton and key reserve contributor Pat Connaughton but winning in spite of it.
Middleton (wrist) and Connaughton (calf) remain out. Joe Ingles (ACL) is out indefinitely.

Milwaukee’s 24th-ranked offense might be a concern if it wasn’t for the absence of Middleton and Connaughton who accounted for 30 points per game last season. Albeit, this iteration of the Bucks still looks stilted at times especially when Jrue Holiday’s shot isn’t falling.
In the interim, they’re relying on their top-ranked defense and will need it to combat the Knicks’ sixth-ranked offense to remain unbeaten.
The benches could be the x-factor to this match as the Knicks once again have a top unit (rank second in bench scoring) while the Bucks’ depth is impacted by the key absences.
Milwaukee has to lose eventually, but I doubt it’s this match. The big question is whether the Knicks will be able to replicate a similar effort to their prior games. I’m betting they can although the Bucks still win but the Knicks will keep the score closer than 6.5 points.
