With leader Jimmy Butler back on the court the Miami Heat took a 2-1 series lead over the New York Knicks with a 105-86 rout in Game 3. The teams will tip off at 7:30 at the Kaseya Center in South Beach, Miami in Game 4 on Monday.
ATS
At this time, the Knicks are 49-37-3 overall against the spread this season. Also, they are 28-15-1 ATS as the away team. Additionally, the Heat are 37-51-3 against the spread this season. Also, they are 17-26-2 ATS as the home team.
Season Series
This season the Knicks won the regular season series 3-1 including victories on February 2nd (106-104), March 3rd (122-120), and March 29th (101-92) while the Heat won the March 22nd match (127-120).
Last season the clubs played three times with the Heat taking two of the three regular-season contests. The Knicks hold the all-time record with 69 wins in 134 matches versus the Heat.
This is the sixth occasion these clubs are meeting in the postseason with the Knicks holding the 3-2 advantage while Miami won the last meeting between the squads 4-1 in 2012.
New York Knicks
While neither team shot the ball well the Heat got out to a quick start and then used their defense to maintain the edge the entirety of the match.
Four Knicks starters scored in double-figures including Jalen Brunson (20), Josh Hart (15), R.J. Barrett (14), and Julius Randle (10) but only Hart shot with decent efficiency (5 of 12).
Brunson, Barrett, and Randle combined to shoot 16 of 51 (31.3%) from the field and 2 of 17 from deep (11.7%) with Barrett hitting both deep balls.
Stats
As can be seen, the Knicks are one of the best defensive teams in the association they limit opponents to 113.1 points which is 13th-ranked while possessing the third-best opponent field goal percentage of 46.2% and also ranks 12th for opponent perimeter percentage of 35.7%.
So far, offensively, the Knicks score 116 points per game ranking 11th while shooting 46.7% from the field and 35.4% from the perimeter ranking 20th and 19th respectively.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Immanuel Quickley PG (questionable—knee)
- Jericho Sims C (questionable—shoulder)
Miami Heat
As I predicted Butler was back and his presence allowed the Heat to capture the series lead although his Game 3 offensive output (28 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks) was relatively pedestrian for him
But he made his mark on the defensive side where the box score doesn’t reflect all the ways he impacted the game. Bam Adebayo benefited most from Butler’s return as he added a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the x-factor once again was Kyle Lowry (14 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, block) as he masterfully led the bench unit which helped the Heat to build upon their lead each time he checked in.
Stats
Offensively, the Heat scores 109.5 points per game ranking 30th while shooting 46% from the field and 34.4% from the perimeter ranking 26th and 27th respectively.
Defensively, the Heat allows opponents to score 109.8 points per game ranking second overall. Miami opponents shoot 48.2% from the field and 36.7% from the perimeter with both efficiency categories ranking 22nd.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Udonis Haslem PF (questionable— illness)
- Victor Oladipo SG (OUT— knee)
- Tyler Herro SG (OUT— fingers/hand)

Free New York Knicks vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Both teams rely on defense and are two of the more physical clubs. Examples were on display in Game 3 as Brunson pushed Butler running at full speed in the back. It appeared he re-injured his ankle but Erik Spoelstra said it was more of a thigh stinger.
Later, Cody Zeller pushed Randle in the back also under the basket sparking a domino of players being pushed from behind and leading to three technical fouls.
That was child’s play from what you should expect in Game 4 as I’m expecting Tom Thibodeau to incentivize his squad to use their size, particularly on defense. Unfortunately, this is not the inexperienced Cavaliers the Knicks are facing who’ll give as good as they get.
Factor in Butler didn’t have to over-extend himself in Game 3 and as a reminder, it was Game 4 versus the Bucks when Butler delivered the gut punch that gave the Heat the 3-1 series edge.
