Friday, March 25th, finds the New York Knicks facing the Miami Heat for the third and final time this season. Miami won both prior meetings on January 26th (110-96) February 25th (115-110).
Both squads last played on Wednesday with the Knicks beating the Hornets 121-106 while the Heat lost 104-118 to the Warriors.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Heat sweeping the regular-season series. The Knicks hold the all-time record with 65 wins in 129 matches versus the Heat.
New York Knicks
While they haven’t been mathematically eliminated from the postseason sitting five games back of the Hawks with nine games remaining certainly doesn’t bode well for the Knicks heading anywhere but the lottery.
Ironically, the Knicks have produced some of their best performances in this closing stretch and are enjoying playing the role of spoiler.
Mind you, with no pressure on winning it makes it far easier to play especially for the Knicks whose fan base, isn’t exactly the most understanding when a player is having a bad night (or in the case of Julius Randle – a rough season).
One player who is getting his flowers from the MSG faithful is RJ Barrett who has been on fire since returning from the break. In those 14 games, he’s averaging 26.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.
Julius Randle (quad) and Mitchell Robinson (back) are questionable while Nerlens Noel (foot) was downgraded to out for Friday.
Derrick Rose (ankle) is out indefinitely. Cam Reddish (shoulder) and Kemba Walker (mutual agreement) are done for the season.
Miami Heat
Playing on a team isn’t all puppy dogs and rainbows as fans bore witness to on Wednesday via the Heat – Warriors match. Udonis Haslem who serves more as the veteran championship voice got into it with Jimmy Butler who was also fighting with Erik Spoelstra.
While this happening on another team who was struggling all season might make me question it further – in this case with the top-seeded Heat I’m less concerned.
This is a passionate group who are mad because they just lost consecutive games to teams they should’ve beat. Neither James Harden or Joel Embiid played in Philly and the Dubs rested Draymond Green, Klay Thomspon, Otto Porter Jr. plus Stephen Curry is out injured.
After the match, the team took quite a while to reach the media sessions so it’s very likely they’ve already talked everything out. Suffice to say, I wouldn’t want to be the Knicks because the angst Butler was feeling is likely going to be taken out on them.
In the loss, Kyle Lowry (26 points, nine assists) and Bam Adebayo (25 points, nine rebounds) were the top producers with Butler adding 20 points and Duncan Robinson chipping in 13.
The Heat bench players scored only 13 points and are desperately missing Tyler Herro who is questionable again on Friday. Gabe Vincent (toe) is also questionable versus the Knicks.

Free New York Knicks vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
While RJ and his teammates are enjoying playing spoiler – they’ll be facing the wrath of Butler and the Heat who are ticked at themselves for the last two losses and will take out that anger on the Knicks.
