Sunday, March 13th, the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets tip-off for the third of four scheduled meetings this season. New York will host the final match on April 6th.
Although tightly contested the Nets have won both prior matches on November 30th (112-110) and February 16th (111-106).
New York last played Friday losing 114-118 to the Grizzlies while the Nets annihilated the 76ers 129-100 on Thursday.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Nets sweeping the regular-season series. The Nets hold the all-time record with 103 wins in 204 matches versus the Nets.
New York Knicks
Despite losing on Friday the Knicks are playing with a closer proximity to the team fans witnessed last season. Prior to that match they had won three games in a row and gave the Grizzlies everything they could handle.
The biggest shift has been Julius Randle playing like he did last season and the team playing better overall defense.
In the loss to Memphis, all five Knicks starters scored in double-figures. Randle led the way with a double-double of 36 points and 12 rebounds, plus six assists, two steals, two blocks.
Mitchell Robinson III also had a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds plus four assists, three steals, and four blocks. RJ Barrett offered 23 points and seven rebounds.
The trio of Alec Burks (18), Evan Fournier (12), and Immanuel Quickley (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Quentin Grimes (knee), Nerlens Noel (foot), and Obi Toppin (hamstring) are all questionable for Sunday. Derrick Rose (ankle) is out indefinitely. Cam Reddish (shoulder) and Kemba Walker (team decision) are out for the season.
Brooklyn Nets
Although Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving said all the appropriate things when they were asked about James Harden’s request to leave the Nets deep down you sort of knew it didn’t over well.
And on Thursday they showed precisely how that decision was received. Instead of Harden showing up to demonstrate what the Nets had lost it was the Brooklyn duo who made it clear what Harden had given up.
Durant was in playoff form not just in terms of his stats but he had the entire Nets team amped up and playing like this was Game 7 of a playoff series (even Seth Curry and Andre Drummond who were included in the trade with Ben Simmons).
KD posted a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds plus seven assists, two steals, and a block. Irving scored 22 points with five assists while Curry offered 24 points and five steals.
James Johnson (16), Bruce Brown (11), and Patty Mills (10) were the other double-digit contributors.
LaMarcus Aldridge (hip) is questionable for Sunday while Kyrie Irving is ineligible at Barclays although he can attend games and sit on the bench now. Ben Simmons (conditioning) and Joe Harris (ankle) are all out indefinitely.

This match won’t carry the same level of angst as the 76ers but there is the cross-town rivalry and likely numerous Knicks fans on hand at Barclays to make it interesting but KD is back and motivated which is all the Nets need.
