Wednesday, November 9th, the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets play in the first of four scheduled meetings. The Nets will host again on January 28th while the Knicks will host on February 13th and March 1st.
Both teams last played Monday with the Knicks defeating the Timberwolves 120-107 while the Nets lost a 94-96 nailbiter to the Mavericks
Last season the clubs played four times with the Nets sweeping the regular-season series. The Nets hold the all-time record with 105 wins in 206 matches versus the Knicks.
New York Knicks
When the trio of Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, and Julius Randle are simultaneously clicking they look like a middle-tier playoff seed. The problem is those performances are few and far between.
Monday was one of those nights as Randle in particular was hot from deep early, hitting five of his eventual EIGHT 3-pointers adding to the season-high 19 the Knicks delivered.
Randle led the way with 31 points with Brunson and Barrett adding 23 and 22 respectively and that triumvirate contributing 15 of the Knicks’ 19 treys.
The question is whether they can sustain this effort or if it was simply a result of the Timberwolves’ atrocious defense (another story in itself).
The win brought the Knicks back to .500 on the season as they prepare for what is typically a feisty game as Knicks fans converge on and overtake Barclays.
New York allow opponents to shoot 115 points per game (22nd) shoot 43.5% field goal percentage (2nd) and 34.5% perimeter percentage (10th).
Offensively, the Knicks ranks in the top 10 for scoring with 115 points per game but in a reverse scenario aren’t doing it efficiently ranking 20th in field goal percentage (46.3%) and 22nd in 3-point shooting percentage (33.9%).
Quentin Grimes (foot) is questionable for Wednesday. Mitchell Robinson (knee) is out indefinitely.
Brooklyn Nets
With Kevin Durant dealing with more than he wants to off the court, he tried to will his Nets to victory against the Mavericks.
Durant offered 26 points but he probably had nightmares about that final trip to the charity stripe. With the Mavs up three and he had an opportunity to tie the game and force overtime but missed the second toss.
After purposely missing the third, Royce O’Neale rebounded but turned the ball over trying to throw it back to KD — leading to Brooklyn’s seventh loss in 11 matches.
Ben Simmons was back but attempted only three shots (missing two) which begs the question of whether the Nets can win with the former All-Star taking only three shots per game.
Brooklyn allows opponents to score 111.5 points per game (12th) and shoot 45% from the field (7th) but plummets in opponent perimeter percentage allowing 38.9% which ranks an abysmal 29th.
It’s a mixed bag on offense as well where the Nets average 110.5 points per game (20th), shooting 47.6% from the field (7th) and 35.1% from the perimeter (18th).
Yuta Watanabe (ankle) is out Wednesday. Kyrie Irving (suspension) is out indefinitely. TJ Warren (foot) is expected to return in early November.
NBA Betting Trends:

- The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Brooklyn’s last 5 games.
Free New York Knicks vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
With the Nets cluster f— in full motion, the Knicks are experiencing something they’ve rarely witnessed — avoiding being front page daily fodder for the NY papers.
Topics like how to oust James Dolan, should Obi Toppin be starting, are the MSG rats bigger than normal, and when the hell will Leon Rose call a real presser. Hey – I didn’t say they were immune they’re just walking in that big shadow created by Irving and the Nets’ dysfunction.
Still, there is Kevin Durant who’ll be the best player on the hardwood and pissed his own fan base is cheering the Knicks.
Sidebar: Um Kevin — Nets fans either sold their tickets or the seats were open because let’s face it your fan base sucks (the REAL Nets fans are still back in East Rutherford).
I digress –I suspect the Knicks fans at Barclays will play a role and whichever team channels their cheer/jeers into energy will win. KD is a star (but he also loves himself some petty) so I’ll take him (barely).
