New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans won in Houston on Tuesday to snap a mini losing streak and then nearly took down the Nuggets the next night but there was too much Nikola Jokic in a Denver road win.
Two days off before this game will help and the Pelicans are playing with some spunk with Anthony Davis MIA. It seems less and less likely that Davis will ever suit up for New Orleans again.
Jrue Holiday had a heck of a case to be an All-Star this season but he missed out once again. He’s averaging over 21 points on great shooting splits, eight assists and nearly five rebounds per game. He’s also regarded as one of the very best perimeter defenders in the league, if he isn’t the very best.
But then again, it’s hard to argue against Damian Lillard, Russell Westbrook and Klay Thompson, who all made it over Holiday at the guard spot.
With Davis gone, Jahlil Okafor is getting a chance to play and he’s produced some big numbers in his last six games, in each of which he has logged at least 25 minutes.
Okafor is averaging better than 20 and 10 in those last six games. He had six blocks in one game and managed to keep up with Jokic for a while, at least, the last time out. He’ll face another challenge going up against LaMarcus Aldridge in this game.
San Antonio Spurs
Aldridge made his eighth All-Star team this week, when the West reserves were announced. The Spurs also moved into first place in the Western Conference’s Southwest Division with a win over the scrappy Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night.
At 40.9 percent, San Antonio now has the best three-point shooting percentage in the NBA. It has taken the third-fewest threes as a team but makes them count. Neither Aldridge, nor DeMar DeRozan really shoot three’s well, either. It’s the supporting cast that does most of the damage from outside.
Davis Bertans ought to be in the three-point shootout. He’s averaging nearly 48 percent on 4.4 attempts per game. Dante Cunningham is shooting 49 percent on his attempt per game. Bryn Forbes, Rudy Gay, Patty Mills and Marco Belinelli are all right around, or better than 40 percent, too.
The Spurs have won four in a row and play this final home game before five roadies in a row before the break. They’ll come out of the break with another three on the road.

Free New Orleans Pelicans vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Prediction: San Antonio works the Pels.
New Orleans has been playing with some attitude and that very well may continue but it doesn’t have the personnel to win in San Antonio. It gets ugly in the second half.
