The team everyone expected to make noise in the Disney bubble will finish the experience with a whimper.
Although New Orleans failed to take advantage of the easiest schedule of the 22 bubble teams the future remains bright for the Pelicans.
They’ll close out their seeding games and season playing the East’s eighth-seeded Orlando Magic.
New Orleans Pelicans
In retrospect of a disappointing season in New Orleans, there were numerous high points. Brandon Ingram broke through proving he can be part of the main core.
Zion Williamson had too many stops and starts but the prospect of what he can become remains as intriguing as it did when he was drafted.
This offseason it’s imperative the Pelicans and Williamson get his conditioning under control and establish a routine that will allow him to stay on the court.
Jrue Holiday is a quality individual and the type of mentor Zion, Brandon, Lonzo Ball, and the other Pelicans youngsters can learn from both on and off the court.
Orlando Magic
The saying ‘the best-laid plans, don’t always bear fruit’ could be the mantra of the Magic bubble seeding experience.
In their home state, the Magic seemed to have everything falling in their favor as the season resumed.
With the Brooklyn Nets superstars out, and another six players joining the duo either due to injury or positive COVID-19 tests the Magic seemed primed to benefit.
Their defensive master Jonathan Isaac was finally healthy, they sat a half-game back of the Nets and had the 18th easiest seeding schedule.
They opened their matches with two consecutive victories including one versus the Nets and then the wheels fell off.
Isaac suffered a torn ACL, Aaron Gordon tweaked his hamstring and the Magic suffered five losses in a row. They secured a playoff berth, but the reward for their efforts will be a date with the best team in the association.
Five core contributors missed the last game including Gordon (hamstring), Evan Fournier (illness), Terrence Ross (personal), Michael Carter-Williams (foot), and Mo Bamba (migraine). All but Bamba are expected to be out again.
In the loss to Brooklyn, the game got very chippy resembling a 90’s match more than the current era.
Markelle Fultz and Wes Iwundu each scored 18 while Khem Birch, Nikola Vucevic and James Ennis each scored 12 points.

Free New Orleans Pelicans vs. Orlando Magic NBA Prediction:
In an odd move, the Pelicans are expected to rest their core. For a franchise trying to establish a specific identity and culture is seems going out with a bang would resonate more internally than rewarding the failure with a hall pass. Or maybe I’m just too old school
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Magic -3.5
The Magic will happily spend the contest hoisting 3-balls and working on specific elements they can throw at the Bucks when the playoffs begin next week.
***NOTE*** In case you missed it…When the 2020 NBA 16-team playoff field is set, the NBA Playoffs will proceed in a traditional conference-based format with four rounds and best-of-seven series in each round. The 2020 NBA Finals will end no later than Oct. 13.
