On Saturday, April 9th, the New Orleans Pelicans and Memphis Grizzlies play the fourth and final meeting of this season. Memphis leads the series 2-1 with victories on February 15th (121-109) and March 8th (132-111) while the Pelicans won 112-101 on November 13th.
Both teams last played on Thursday with the Pelicans defeating the Blazers 127-94 while the Grizzlies lost 109-122 to the Nuggets.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Pelicans winning two of the three contests. The Pelicans hold the all-time record with 40 wins in 73 matches versus the Grizzlies.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans hold their fate in their own hands needing to win one more game to cement hosting the nine-ten play-in game. New Orleans is completing the season on a back-to-back set so will have two opportunities.
What they can’t do is lose both games since that would open the door for the Spurs who trail them by two games because San Antonio owns the tiebreaker.
While there are whispers from Zion Williamson’s camp he could make a return it seems highly unlikely the franchise would risk his health after he sat an entire season on a single-elimination game.
That said, if Williamson is nearing a return it’s something the front office might revisit if New Orleans lands the eighth seed.
In the last match, CJ McCollum captained his squad leading the way with 23 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals hitting five of his ten 3-pointers.
Six Pelicans scored in double-figures including Willy Hernangomez (17), Jonas Valanciunas (14), Trey Murphy III (12), Larry Nance Jr. (11), and Jaxson Hayes (11).
Brandon Ingram (hamstring) is questionable for Saturday. Zion Williamson (foot) hasn’t played this season and while whispers grow that he could return he remains listed as out indefinitely on the injury report.
Kira Lewis Jr. (ACL) is lost for the season.
Memphis Grizzlies
The big question out of Memphis was how serious Ja Morant’s knee issue was. The youngster had issues with his knee in college so it was a fair concern.
Grizzly fans can take a sigh of relief as the superstar is expected to make his return to the court on Saturday. Head coach, Taylor Jenkins will likely ease him in and limit his minutes as this game is more about Morant rediscovering a rhythm leading into the postseason.
For much of the 2021-22 campaign, Morant was in the mix for MVP with 27.6 points, 6.7 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. But with a 12-game absence in December and this recent nine-game stint he’s not in the mix any longer.
However, there is a strong belief his 56 games will be enough to warrant giving him Most Improved Player.
Morant (knee) was upgraded to questionable for Saturday while Tyrell Terry (foot), Jarrett Culver (knee), and Killian Tillie (knee) were downgraded to out Saturday.

Free New Orleans Pelicans vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
With Memphis locked into the second seed, there isn’t much to play for aside from pride and keeping their rhythm. However, Jenkins should err on the side of caution and get his core some burn but not risk anyone getting injured on a freak play.
On the other side of the equation, the Pelicans want and need the victory since a single-elimination game looms so owning home court is essential.
