New Orleans Pelicans
After starting 0–4 and then 1–7, the Pelicans have won five out of their last seven games to climb out of the basement of the Western Conference standings.

Brandon Ingram started hot during the losing and hasn’t slowed down his scoring output with his team lining up some Ws. He’s scoring over twenty-five points per game on an elite effective shooting rate (.585).
JJ Reddick’s start wasn’t like Ingram’s. He put up single-digit points in half of his first eight games with New Orleans but he’s been sizzling since.
Reddick is averaging 22.5 points over his last six games and looks like the reason the Pels have been winning. They have ripped off three in a row over the Warriors, Trail Blazers and at the Suns.
Then there’s the incredibly steady Jrue Holiday, who is averaging at least 7.5 assists for a second season in a row and, for the first time in his career, stealing more than two balls per game.
Holiday’s scoring is a little short of what it was last year but it’s only because he isn’t shooting the ball nearly as well at the outset. Once his splits return to normal, it will only have the Pelicans playing even better.
New Orleans is in Utah for a game against the Jazz on Saturday night before this one.
L.A. Clippers
The Clippers beat the Rockets, 122–119, on Friday night to pull even with Houston in the Western Conference. The Lakers still lead, followed by the Nuggets before you get to the Clippers and Rockets.

Lou Williams led the way against the Rockets with twenty-six points off the bench; Kawhi Leonard had twenty-four; Paul George chipped in nineteen.
George is still getting acclimated to his new surroundings after making his Clipper debut just ten days ago now. Friday represented his worst game yet, in which he shot just 4-for-15 from the field.
Pat Beverley didn’t shut down James Harden, who still scored thirty-seven games with the Clippers’ stopper hounding him, but he, as always, made life tough. Beverley may not be as big a defensive asset in this game if all he’s doing is shadowing Lonzo Ball.
