Sunday, April 3rd, 2022 finds the New Orleans Pelicans and LA Clippers playing for the fourth and final time this season. The Pelicans will attempt to get the regular-season series sweep having already won on November 19th (94-81) 29th (123-104), and January 13th (113-89).
Both teams last played on Friday with the Pelicans beating the Lakers 114-111 while the Clippers routed the Bucks 153-119 who elected to rest their core.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Pelicans taking two of the three contests. The Pelicans hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 37 or their 67 matches.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans probably wish they could just play LA teams since they are unbeaten by the Lakers and Clippers having posted three wins against each club.
The win Friday was significant as it pushed the Lakers outside the play-in tournament and this was with both LeBron James and Anthony Davis playing.
CJ McCollum led the way scoring 32 points while Brandon Ingram offered 29 points. Big man Jonas Valanciunas collected his 50th double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pelicans have become the Lakers’ nemesis having single-handedly been responsible for knocking them down in two successive weekend games.
Zion Williamson (foot) hasn’t played this season and remains out with the presumption he’ll take the entire season off continue to rehab and return for the 2022-23 season. Kira Lewis Jr. (ACL) is lost for the season.
LA Clippers
The last match is misleading as neither the Bucks nor the Clippers played their top lineups with LA resting each of Reggie Jackson, Paul George, Marcus Morris, and Nicolas Batum all of whom are expected to play Sunday.
It was a breakthrough game for Robert Covington who scored a career-best 43 points but also entered the Clippers record books by connecting on a franchise-high 11 perimeter shots in a single game.
Amir Coffey (32) also registered a career best in points and the 153 points were a regular-season game franchise high. The trio of Luke Kennard (23), Terance Mann (18), and Isaiah Hartenstein (14) were the other double-figure scorers.
Brandon Boston (illness) was downgraded to out on Sunday. Jason Preston (foot), Norman Powell (foot), and Leonard (knee) are out indefinitely. Jay Scrubb (toe) is lost for the season.

That could well be the Pelicans who look poised to nab the ninth seed and as such would host the play-in game against either the Lakers or Spurs.
Since a one-game elimination game is serious business don’t expect either team to be showing off any special sets in this match.
