Saturday, December 7th finds the New Orleans Pelicans squad taking on the rising Dallas Mavericks. This is the third meeting between the teams this season with the Mavericks having already won both prior contests.
Last season, the squads played on four occasions with the Pelicans winning three of the four meetings. The Mavericks hold the all-time record having bested the Pelicans in 43 of their 65 matches.

JJ Redick topped the scoring output with 26 points while Jrue Holiday (23), Brandon Ingram (21) and Jaxson Hayes (17) each chipped in.
Brandon Ingram leads the Pelicans in scoring (25.2) and field goal percentage (49.2%). Jrue Holiday leads the team in assists (6.8) and steals (2.0). Kenrich Williams tops the rebounding category (5.8) while Jaxson Hayes is best in blocks (1.2).
Brandon Ingram suffered a right eye laceration versus the Suns and is listed as questionable for the Saturday contest against the Mavericks.
Derrick Favors missed the past ten games initially because of lower-back spasms but remains out due to personal reasons with no details on what those issues are.
The initial projections were for Zion Williamson to return in early to mid-December but news this week has the team taking a more patient approach to his return indicating it will be closer to month-end.
Darius Miller (Achilles) is rehabbing from a ruptured Achilles and isn’t projected to return this season.
Dallas Mavericks
At 20-years old what Luka Doncic is doing as a sophomore is unparalleled. The wunderkid has led his Mavericks to their current fourth seeding all while he flirts with personal historic setting marks.
In the win versus the Wolves, he took two unintentionally shots to the head and lost his composure with the officials earning him a tech.
[dfads params=’groups=20599&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
This relegated him to the bench where he assumed the role of head cheerleader watching as the reserve unit erased the deficit behind some hot fourth quarter perimeter shooting.
The unlikely heroes of the night were Dwight Powell who led the club in scoring with 24 points and Jalen Brunson who was the key cog in the come from behind win. Bruson scored 14 of his 18 points in the final frame.
Ironic that an off night for Doncic was comprised of 22 points, six assists, and seven rebounds. This may not measure up to the sophomore’s typical offerings but did keep his 20/5/5 streak alive. If he duplicates the effort in this match he’ll tie Michael Jordan atop the leaderboard for most consecutive games with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Luka Doncic leads the Mavericks in scoring (30.3 points), assists (9.2), rebounds (10.1), field goal percent (47.8%) and steals (1.4) per game. The lone key category he isn’t leading belongs to his new running mate Kristaps Porzingis which is blocks (2.2).
Dallas may be without Dwight Powell who left the Wolves match with a left arm contusion. He’ll be a game day decision.
