Wednesday, February 9th, finds the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings playing for the third and final time this season. Minnesota won the two prior matches on November 17th (107-97) and February 8th (134-114).
The clubs are playing a rare back-to-back set versus each other with Minny crushing Sacramento on Tuesday by 20 points.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Wolves winning two of the three contests. The Wolves hold the all-time record having bested the Kings in 64 of their 122 matches.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves extended their current winning streak to five games with the victory on Tuesday. Although both teams had multiple players score in double-figures it was Minnesota’s bench who won the game outscoring the Kings bench 72 to 32.
Granted the Kings were dealing with a shortened roster as they await the arrival of the players from the trade with Indiana. Karl-Anthony Towns led the way with 25 points and nine rebounds while D’Angelo Russell added 14 points and seven assists. .
Anthony Edwards had a horrific shooting night (2 of 12) scoring just five points.
Head coach Chris Finch played all 15 players with Malik Beasley leading the bench effort with 21 points and was joined by Naz Reid (12), Taurean Prince (11) and Jordan McLaughlin (11) scoring in double-figures.
The Timberwolves are fully healthy.
Sacramento Kings
For weeks there has been speculation regarding what the Kings would do at the trade deadline. The players most analysts expected to be on the move were De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley III, Harrison Barnes and Buddy Hield.
Only one player was deemed untouchable – – Tyrese Haliburton who had demonstrated why he was who Sacramento should build around. So learning Haliburton was the player being traded and only Hield of the quartet above included in the deal was jawdropping.
After 15 years of missing the playoffs the fact Sacramento would trade away the one player they should’ve made their cornerstone only adding fodder for everyone to say “THIS is why the Kings will never win”.
Philly’s Daryl Morey had said there is a deal that can be done (for Ben Simmons) with Sacramento with everyone assuming the player he coveted was Haliburton which only adds more questions to this trade.
Sure Domantas Sabonis is a quality big but he’s not going to correct the issues Sacramento has — defense and shooting. Sabonis is joined by Justin Holiday, and Jeremy Lamb along with a 2023 second round pick. The Pacers get Haliburton, Buddy Hield and Tristan Thompson.
Richaun Holmes (personal), Marvin Bagley III (ankle), and Mo Harkless (ankle) are all questionable for Wednesday. Terence Davis (wrist) is out indefinitely.

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
Presumably the new Kings will be in the lineup on Wednesday, but it’s not a given and even if they do participate and have great debuts, the Wolves are on a roll and I’m taking them to extend their win streak to six.
