Tuesday, November 1st finds the Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns playing in the first of four scheduled meetings this season. The Suns will host again on March 29th, while Minny will host the November 9th and January 13th contests.
Both teams last played Sunday but with different results – – the Wolves are licking their wounds after losing 98-108 to the Spurs while the Suns are on a high extending their win streak to four games following their 124-109 win versus the Rockets.
The Suns hold the all-time record between the clubs with 77 wins in 120 meetings adding to it last season when the swept the young Wolves in their three meetings.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves allow 113.1 points per 100 possessions ranking tied for 15th while they are effectively holding opponents to 43.0 percent from the field which ranks an impressive 3rd and 34.5 percent from the perimeter (15th).
In contrast, Minnesota scores 115.1 points per 100 possessions which ranks 15th while shooting 46.7 percent from the field (17th) but struggle mightily from the perimeter shooting 31.8 percent which ranks 26th.
Jordan McLaughlin (heel) is questionable to play Tuesday.
Phoenix Suns
Although I’m still not buying stock on this Suns squad there is no discounting their record or performances. Devin Booker hit the season playing with focus and tenacity and seems to have taken over the leadership role from Chris Paul.
The Suns allow 106.3 points per 100 possessions ranking 3rd and opponents are shooting 44.5 percent from the field (7th) and 34.2 percent from the perimeter (13th).
Phoenix is excelling on both sides of the court as displayed by their 118.7 points per 100 possessions which is tied with the Warriors for first in the association. From an efficiency perspective the Suns also sit atop the ladder for field goal percentage shooting 49.3% percent.
The only hiccup is their perimeter efficiency as they rank 19th shooting with opponents shooting 34.7 percent.
Ish Wainright (back) is questionable for Tuesday while Deandre Ayton (ankle) is out but expected to return early in November. Jae Crowder (personal) remains away from the team while management seeks a trade partner for him.

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
As I’ve noted prior, until the Suns are sold I won’t be betting against them (you can look up my old previews for my conspiracy theory on teams being sold and their win percentages).
That aside, these are two teams who entered the season with high expectations. Phoenix lost in Round 2 in embarrassing fashion after topping the league in wins. Their goal is to win the title.
Alternatively, the Wolves finally got back into the playoffs after a major drought and pushed all their chips into the center as their newly acquired exec Tim Connelly mortgaged the teams future to land Rudy Gobert believing the Wolves were only missing his presence to be perennial playoff participants (and ultimately vie for a title).
The jury is out on both situations. Can the Suns be anything more than a really good in-season team? Can Gobert push the Wolves up the ladder and will his presence be as effective in the post season?
And the question I wonder most about is how long before Minny decides to build around rising star Anthony Edwards and trade Karl-Anthony Towns to recoup draft capital and young assets?
