Friday, March 4th, the Minnesota Timberwolves and OKC Thunder play the third of their four scheduled matches this season. Minnesota is up 2-0 having won the January 5th (98-90) and 7th (135-105). Minny will host the final meeting on March 9th.
The Wolves played Tuesday beating the Warriors 129-114 while the Thunder provided the biggest shocker of Wednesday’s matches as they went into Denver and beat the Nuggets 119-107.
Last season the clubs played three times with OKC winning two of the three contests. The Thunder hold the all-time record with 85 wins in 126 matches versus the Wolves.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Although the Warriors are reeling the Wolves can revel in that victory as they completely dominated the match. They’re on a roll having won five of their last seven and are 10-4 in the last 14 games.
It’s looking like they’ll remain in the seventh seed but they still have an opportunity to catch the Nuggets trailing them by 2.5 games while holding a slim one-game edge over the eighth-place Clippers.

In the victory versus the Warriors, Anthony Edwards wasn’t in the lineup but D’Angelo Russell got his revenge on the team that traded him for Andrew Wiggins delivering 22 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
However, it was Karl-Anthony Towns who feasted scoring 39 points with nine rebounds. KAT was much more aggressive on offense without Ant-Man in the line.
Chris Finch needs to follow up on that tangent by encouraging Towns to be that aggressive when Edwards is also playing. It doesn’t mean they can’t share the ball and provide balanced scoring but that energy would propel the team to another level.
Edwards (knee) was downgraded to out while Jared Vanderbilt (quad) is questionable. McKinley Wright IV (elbow) is out indefinitely.
OKC Thunder
Just when you think the Thunder is completely invested in tanking and with so many members of the roster sidelined they couldn’t possibly win they pull off an amazing victory against the Nuggets (in Denver no less).
While it’s true this team doesn’t have enough talent to be in the mix on a nightly basis they have something many of the other tanking teams don’t have – a no-quit attitude.
One thing working in OKC’s favor is they share the ball and other than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Lu Dort and Josh Giddey when healthy) you never know who’ll get the touch.
That means opposing teams have to plan for everyone and while it might seem like the support staff don’t have the scoring chops taking that viewpoint has cost other elite teams like Denver (Nets, Raptors, Grizzlies, Mavericks).
On Wednesday, SGA led the way with 29 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block. Double-digit scoring came courtesy of Isaiah Roby (26), Tre Mann (13), and Darius Bazley (12).
Aleksej Pokusevski served up a great performance with nine points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. Sort of what Sam Presti envisioned when he drafted the true unicorn of the NBA.
The tanking injury report is fully in motion with eight players listed. Derrick Favors (back), Ty Jerome (hip), Kenrich Williams (knee), Luguentz Dort (shoulder), and Aaron Wiggins (ankle) were all downgraded to out on Friday.
Josh Giddey (hip), Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (foot), and Mike Muscala (ankle) are out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Minnesota is 10-4 SU in their last 14 games.
- OKC is 3-8 SU in their last 11 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 13 of Minnesota’s last 16 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 6 of Oklahoma City’s last 6 games.
Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. OKC Thunder NBA Prediction:
Mark Daigneault is missing his second (Dort) and third (Giddey) scoring options and seven of OKC’s top 11 producers but that was also the case in Denver which is why teams can never count them out of the match.
That said, the Wolves seem to always get up for this team and it should result in an easy Wolves win even with the rich 9.5 spread.
