Thursday, January 27th, finds the Minnesota Timberwolves playing the Golden State Warriors for the third time this season. The teams split the two prior games with Golden State winning 123-110 on November 10th and Minnesota winning 119-99 on January 16th. The Wolves will host the final meeting on March 1st.
Both clubs last played on Tuesday with the Wolves battling the Blazers to the buzzer winning 109-107 while the Warriors pounded the Mavericks 130-92.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Warriors taking two of the three contests. The Warriors have won 71 of the 121 matches played versus the Wolves all-time.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves are one of the hotter teams in the association with eight wins in their last 11 matches and the most recent coming right down to the wire to decide.
Having bumped knees the game prior there was uncertainty whether Anthony Edwards would play Tuesday. He didn’t just play, he feasted scoring 40 points showcasing his physicality with dunks and offensive versatility hitting five 3-points, plus was a terror on defense with nine rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.
The Big 3 all played well with Karl-Anthony Towns producing a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds, with four blocks. D’Angelo Russell registered 22 points, while Jarred Vanderbilt chipped in 13 points as the only other double-figure scorer.
Minny needed every single one of the above starting quartets points especially with their bench nearly being outscored by double (14 to 27 points for the Blazers).
Patrick Beverley (ankle) is questionable for Thursday.
Golden State Warriors
Steph Curry’s shooting slump is starting to look like more than a simple cold spell. Playing in his 13th season, the evidence is eye-popping. First, I’m ignoring 2019-20 since he played in only five games. However, in each of Curry’s 11 other seasons, his lowest 3-point shooting efficiency occurred in 2016-17 when he shot 41.1 percent from deep.
In comparison, through 44 games he’s shooting 37.3 percent. Is he nursing an injury we’re not aware of or is it a simple matter of fatigue? Perhaps, he’s compensating to help accelerate Klay Thompson’s re-integration into the fold? ‘
Regardless of the reason, something is definitely amiss. Since the calendar turned, he’s played in 12 games and shot 40 percent or better from deep in only three contests. He hit 2 of 10 versus Dallas, but it didn’t deter him from being a factor in other areas with 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. ‘
Fellow Splash Brother, Klay Thompson connected on 3 of 5 from deep. But the revelation was rookie Jonathan Kuminga who nailed all four of his 3-point attempts and elicited gasps from the Warriors faithful on a few of his spectacular dunks on his way to a team-high 22 points.
Andre Iguodala (hip) is downgraded to out Thursday. Draymond Green (calf) and James Wiseman (knee) remain out indefinitely.

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Although the Wolves’ current hot streak was achieved primarily against lower-tier squads, they beat the Nets and routed these Warriors.
The trade deadline is looming and both clubs could be active. Golden State has depth and youthful assets to barter with to create an enticing package for say Ben Simmons but the salary cap implications will likely hold them at bay (no pun intended) until the offseason.
Conversely, while the Wolves push for a playoff berth they could also surprise and elect to accelerate change – handing the keys to Edwards and grab a haul for KAT. On the other hand, their recent success may be a none too subtle message to management they want to stay together.
A great way to drive home that point would be to beat the Dubs in consecutive meetings but the Warriors will be seeking to exact revenge.
