Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves’ defense has been scary bad on its current three-game losing streak, which started when it gave up 131 in Atlanta. After that, the Pacers’ pedestrian offense put up 122 and then the Wizards hung 135.
Minnesota hosts Oklahoma City on Tuesday night before this game, on the road, on Wednesday. I wouldn’t expect the Wolves to hold a hot Pistons team under 120.

Robert Covington hasn’t played since the year turned to 2019 but reports have him coming back sometime soon. I’ll believe it when I see it. He’s probably out for this game. When he does return, though, his defense will certainly help.

The best Minnesota can really hope for this season is to beat out the Kings and Clippers and get the 8-seed out West. Whether it does or doesn’t, Minnesota is destined for a mediocre finish and a mediocre draft pick, either way.
Detroit Pistons
Mediocrity is probably where Detroit is headed too, currently the 7-seed in the East, set up to play Toronto in the opening round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
The Pistons have been anything but mediocre since the All-Star Break, though. They have won five out of six, including a win in overtime over Toronto on Sunday, the last time they were in action.

For what it’s worth, Kawhi Leonard didn’t play for the Raptors, who started Jeremy Lin in his place and played OG Anunoby 35 minutes off the bench. Blake Griffin led Detroit with 27 points and Luke Kennard scored 19 big ones off the pine.
