Thursday, February 3rd, finds the Cleveland Cavaliers facing the Detroit Pistons for the first time this season. The clubs will play twice in four days with Minnesota hosting on Sunday, February 6th.
Both teams last played on Tuesday with the Wolves pounding the Nuggets 130-115 while the Pistons lost 101-111 to the Pelicans on Tuesday.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Timberwolves won both contests between the clubs. The teams have each won 31 times in their all-time 62 regular-season matches.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves will get the advantage in this home and home series since they don’t play any games in between while the Pistons will be playing their third game in four nights following a back-to-back featuring the Wolves and Celtics.
Minnesota is on the upswing having won six of their last nine matches including impressive victories versus the Warriors, Nets, Jazz, and Nuggets.

It sure looks like Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell have found a groove but perhaps, more importantly, is the play of the ‘others’. That supporting group is making a difference particularly on the defensive end of the hardwood.
Specifically, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jordan McLaughlin, Naz Reid, and of course Patrick Beverley are giving the Wolves an identity defensively. As a young squad, they still have moments where they fall back into bad habits but they’ve turned a corner.
D’Angelo Russell (shin), Patrick Beverley (ankle), Josh Okogie (quad), and Leandro Bolmaro are questionable for Thursday.
Detroit Pistons
Jerami Grant was back for Detroit and the team looked to be a bit out of step as they tried to integrate him back into the flow of the game. There wasn’t a natural transition however as Cade Cunningham became the main playmaker and scorer while Grant was out.
While there is plenty of speculation surrounding which teams will make moves at the trade deadline in eight days it’s assumed the Pistons will be active.
Ben Simmons may be the player most discussed in terms of whether he’ll be traded but Grant is the player with the most likelihood of being traded. When he came to Detroit it was based partially on him wanting a bigger role than he had in Denver.
How that will impact his fit with a new team will be an intriguing storyline since any elite team who adds him won’t be tasking him to be the primary scorer.
Cade Cunningham (hip), Josh Jackson (back), and Jamorko Pickett (end) are all questionable for Thursday. Isaiah Livers (foot) is out indefinitely.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Detroit Pistons NBA Analysis:
The Wolves are on a roll and have their sights set on trying to move up to the sixth seed. That’s why the win versus the Nuggets was vital as it narrowed the gap between the clubs to 1.5 games.
Although Minny still has a tendency to resort to prior bad habits the Pistons are also a young squad so this should be an easy victory for the Wolves.
