Friday, April 1st. finds the Minnesota Timberwolves playing the Denver Nuggets for the fourth and final meeting this season. The Nuggets lead the series 2-1 having won on December 15th (124-107) and February 1st (130-115) while the Wolves won 93-91 on October 30th
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Wolves getting pounded 125-102 by the Raptors while the Nuggets beat the Pacers 125-118.
The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Wolves in 87 of their 136 meetings. Last season the squads played three times with Denver sweeping the season series.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves were one of the hottest teams coming out of the All-Star Break winning 11 of 13 matches but have stumbled losing four of their last five matches.
It’s hard to fault them given who they lost to — the Mavericks, Suns, Celtics and Raptors who are all currently seeded sixth and above and are perhaps the four hottest teams in the association.
The worst of those losses occurred Wednesday when they held a 17 point lead at 9:40 of the second quarter but then the Raptors buckled down defensively and from that moment forward outscored Minnesota 102-62 to win 125-102.
The Wolves struggled to stop the Raptors employing a defensive scheme to slow Pascal Siakam sending double and triple teams at him. It wasn’t a bad strategy given Siakam had just scored 40 points the game prior.
Unfortunately, the Raptors forward adapted and got the ball to his open shooters who were blistering hot from the perimeter hitting 50 percent of the 3-pointers (18 of 36). Minnesota also lost the fast break (27-17) and points in the paint (48-44) battles.
The Wolves were their own worst enemy coughing up the ball 23 times leading to 25 Raptors points but one area where they excelled was on the glass outrebounding Toronto 49-46 and 18 to 11 on the offensive glass.
Malik Beasley (ankle) is downgraded to out Friday while Jaden McDaniels (ankle) is out indefinitely.
Denver Nuggets
The race for the MVP is heating up and while Joel Embiid led the way for most of the season Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo are making it a much closer race.
This past week Jokic seemingly took over the top spot but the way Giannis is playing and how he’s impacted winning two huge games against contenders this week may have pushed him to the top spot.
Working against the Jokic is the Nuggets being in the sixth seed although they’re tied with the Jazz (record-wise) and are just two games back of the third-place Warriors and fourth-place Mavericks.
Catching the Dubs or Mavs seems unlikely but getting the fifth slot is definitely attainable given the Jazz have the seventh most-difficult strength of schedules remaining while the Nuggets hold the 24th ranked strength of schedule.
JaMychal Green (wrist) is questionable while Zeke Nnaji (hamstring) was downgraded to out Friday. Vlatko Cancar (fractured foot), Jamal Murry (ACL), and Michael Porter Jr. (back surgery) are out indefinitely.

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction
Minnesota is still mathematically in the race to move out of the play-in with this game being a must-win given the Nuggets hold a three-game lead on them so a loss tonight would virtually close that opportunity.
