Monday, March 21st finds the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks playing for the third of four meetings this season. The teams have split the two prior contests with Minnesota taking the December 19th match 111-105 while Dallas won 114-102 on December 21st. The final meeting will occur in Minnesota on March 25th.
Both teams last played on Saturday with the Wolves beating the Bucks 138-119 while the Mavericks lost 108-129 to the Hornets.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Mavericks taking two of the three contests. The Mavericks have won 74 of the 127 matches played versus the Warriors all-time.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Perhaps the hottest team in the association right now is the Timberwolves who’ve won four games in a row and 10 of their last 11 matches. While they faced some easy teams along the way there are also some impressive victories including the Warriors, Heat, and the most recent win against the Bucks.
Minny has 10 games remaining with half on the road and half at home.
Karl-Anthony Towns looks to be the happiest he’s been in quite some time and this Wolves team has that swagger that comes from success. The Big 3 of KAT, Anthony Edwards, and D’Angelo Russell seem to be the perfect compliment to one another and head coach Chris Finch has this team streaking at the perfect time.
That confidence will be tested particularly in these next six games with the T-Wolves facing the Mavericks (twice this week), Suns, Suns, Celtics, Raptors, and Nuggets. The latter on the second night of a back-to-back set which could be critical to seeding.
How they perform in this segment of games will likely determine if they remain sixth or drop back into the play-in.
Naz Reid (back) is probable while Karl-Anthony Towns (forearm) is questionable for Monday. Jaden McDaniels (ankle) is out indefinitely.
Dallas Mavericks
After winning eight of nine the Mavericks took a slight stumble losing the last two games of their road trip to the 76ers and Hornets. This being the first game back home will prove to be a tough test as they face the streaking Timberwolve who have jumped ahead of the Nuggets into sixth and are only 1.5 games back of Dallas.
It took me the better part of the season to figure out what they were doing so well on the defensive end of the court to consistently rank in the top 10 (currently sixth).
Of the miscellaneous categories, the only one they are in the top 10 in is opponent points scored off turnovers (ranked 2nd) which is mostly attributed to Luka Doncic who doesn’t turn over the ball, and the fact they play at a pedestrian pace.
In fact, they rank dead last for pace (95.54) on the season, but with the addition of Spencer Dinwiddie are experimenting with a small ball lineup and increasing their pace but only for small segments of games.
What is clear, is this is the pace most playoff games will be played at and the Mavericks have the most experience with having done it all season.
Reggie Bullock (personal) and Spencer Dinwiddie (knee) were upgraded to probable for Monday, Theo Pinson (finger) and Tim Hardaway Jr.(foot) are out indefinitely.

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Prediction:
This will be a true test for the clubs to see who masters who when it comes to pace. As noted the Mavericks play with the slowest pace in the NBA but the T-Wolves play with the fastest pace which has increased since the All-Star break from 101.34 to 103.69.
Although it might just be a blip in an otherwise stellar campaign the Mavs looked tired at the end of the trip while the Wolves look inspired and motivated. Given a victory will pull them within a half-game of fifth look for this match to have playoff intensity.
