Tuesday, March 29th, the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers play for the third and final occasion of this season. The teams have split the prior games with the Bucks taking the November 9th contest 118-109 and the 76ers winning the February 17th match 123-120.
Milwaukee last played Saturday losing 102-127 to the Grizzlies while the 76ers lost 104-114 to the Suns.
Last season the clubs played three times with Milwaukee sweeping the series and holding a current six-game win streak versus Philly. The Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the 76ers in 115 of their 218 matches
Milwaukee Bucks
As noted in my last preview the Bucks haven’t had their big three for the past four games and Holiday is questionable for this contest.
Although the trio hasn’t had much time to get the rhythm in place with the recently returned Brook Lopez it’s not a major concern. That quartet is very comfortable with the organic chemistry that comes from the constancy of a roster.
This situation isn’t the same as integrating James Harden in Philly or figuring out the timing in Brooklyn with Kyrie Irving finally back full time.
And, that’s because the quartet of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, Holiday, and Lopez won a title together last season and unlike the Sixers and Nets don’t need copious games and sets to get their rhythm back.
They know how to play with each other and what’s most important is getting Lopez run to ease into the season and he’s the one guy not missing time in that group.
While there have been some occasional concerning losses like the recently dropped game to the Ja Morant-less Grizzlies at the same time it’s felt all season like the Bucks aren’t concerned about the regular season.
Sure, Giannis is still perhaps the most competitive guy in the association but he’s chilled a bit since winning the title, and knowing what it takes to win the chip is able to let some of these losses carry less weight than he did in the past.
Bottom line, don’t be surprised if the Bucks ramp up their intensity particularly defensively once the first playoff game tips off. Plus they’re 10-3 in the last 13 matches so this isn’t a red flag concern.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee), Jrue Holiday (ankle), and Serge Ibaka (illness) are all probable for Tuesday. De’Andre Bembry (knee) is done for the season.
Philadelphia 76ers
On the other side of the equation, I’m not sure the 76ers should be feeling overly confident about where they are at the moment. Through the last 12 games they are 7-5.
Joel Embiid remains dominant and one of the key MVP candidates with another tipping off across the court tonight (Antetokounmpo) and fellow big man Nikola Jokic.
The race very likely comes down to the final games based on how closely the teams are seeded and the statistics of those top three players.
The issue in Philly is two-fold– how quickly can they integrate James Harden to get the best out of him and how can Doc Rivers maximize Harden and Embiid together while also improving their court mates.
While the debut matches hinted at that possibility the Sixers discovered they were left leaner in the Harden trade than ideally desired. Benches will shorten in the postseason, but versatility is a bonus Philly will be in short supply of.
Jaden Springer (groin) is questionable for Tuesday.

Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Philadelphia 76ers NBA Prediction:
These clubs are mired in a jumbled mess atop the East and entering this match are tied with each other and the Celtics one game back of the Heat for the top spot.
As much as fans are desirous of a Nets – 76ers series having to play them in the first round wouldn’t be ideal and it would inevitably mean the hardest path to Larry O’B.
In contrast, the Bucks don’t care who they play though there are better matchups than others. As for this game, clearly, the top priority is Giannis versus Joel but which of their supporting cast will be the bigger x-factor Holiday and Middleton or Harden and Maxey.
Also – don’t expect these teams to be pulling out any new sets or schemes in this match with the postseason looming.
