Saturday, March 19th, the Milwaukee Bucks and Minnesota Timberwolves play for the second and final time this season. The Wolves won the initial meeting 113-108 on October 27th.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Bucks beating the Kings 135-126 while the Wolves spanked the Lakers 124-104.
Last season, the squads played twice with the Bucks winning both contests. The Timberwolves hold the all-time record having bested the Bucks in 32 of their 63 matches.
Milwaukee Bucks
The defending champions are building toward the postseason and looking like this was always their intent. They’ve won eight of their last nine matches and happily welcomed Brook Lopez back.
The latter being a big deal as most of the issues the Bucks had this season inevitably came back to not having a rim protector, enough rebounding or asset that could guard the larger bodies in the East.
Lopez isn’t necessarily a master on the boards or at the rim but he does just enough to make the Bucks better and fits the starting core perfectly. The combination of Lopez and Portis gives the Bucks so much more versatility on both ends of the court.
Pat Connaughton (finger) and De’Andre Bembry (knee) are out indefinitely.
Minnesota Timberwolves
That the Wolves took such glee in beating the Lakers wasn’t the point of the match on Wednesday – stepping back and looking at the team as they interacted on the court, and the sidelines it was more a factor of their overall interaction.
This team truly likes each other and it’s paying dividends on the floor. Last year after Karl-Anthony Towns returned to the hardwood it was clear he was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders having lost his mother and several family members to COVID.
This season he exudes joy as he rediscovered his love for the game.
The team I earmarked as the Western dark horse is living up to those expectations. KAT recently dropped a 60 piece and the squad thoroughly enjoyed punking the Lakers as they beat them easily. Ballsy of the Wolves as they could easily have to play the Lakers in the play-in tournament (with Anthony Davis back).
Naz Reid (back) is questionable while Jaden McDaniels (ankle) is out indefinitely.

Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
This match should offer some intriguing matchups based on the rosters. With Brook Lopez back in the lineup, he’ll get some time on Karl-Anthony Towns as will Bobby Portis. Jrue Holiday will be tasked to slow Anthony Edwards or limit D’Angelo Russell if he starts out hot.
On the opposite side of the court Jarred Vanderbilt likely draws the task of slowing Giannis but Chris Finch will need to draw upon the lessons he learned while an assistant with the Raptors and utilize the team defensive approach to try to limit Antetokounmpo’s output.
Something worth noting about these clubs is the shift from their previous strategies. The Bucks were known more for their defense but it’s the offensive side of the court where they are excelling. Specifically, they rank fourth on offense and 14th defensively.
Alternatively, during the Towns era, offense has been the focus but this season the Wolves have paid specific attention to improving defensively and as such are a top 10 squad on both ends — sixth on offense and 10th on defense.
