Tuesday, February 8th finds the Milwaukee Bucks facing the Los Angeles Lakers for the second and final time this season. Milwaukee won the initial meeting on November 17th by a score of 109-102.
The Bucks are playing the Crypto.com double header facing the Clippers on Sunday in a 137-113 victory while the Lakers won a 122-115 back and forth affair versus the Knicks that required overtime to decide on Saturday.
Milwaukee Bucks
For years the West has been the tougher conference but this year the East seems to have taken over that mantle. Sure the Suns, Warriors and Grizzlies are having great seasons but any of the six teams beneath them could finish fourth.
The East is another story completely with four distinct tiers and some of the best battles in the NBA occurring. Two trios separate the tankers and group fighting for the 10th seed.
The middle group consists of four teams fighting to nab the sixth seed with the Raptors currently in that spot but statistically tied with the Nets and Celtics and the Hornets 1.5 games behind.
Milwaukee is in the quintet of teams at the top of the East who are more closely grouped than ever. They are separated by 1.5 games with the Bucks tied with the Bulls a half game behind Miami, a half game up on Cleveland and 1.0 game up on the 76ers.
Theoretically the Raptors, Nets, or Celtics could still finish first although it’s less likely. Diving into the closing dates the Bucks have the hardest remaining strength of schedule with 18 games versus current playoff seeds.
Chicago ranks third, Philly sixth, Miami 13th and the team in this group with the easiest strength of schedule is the Cavs at 25th. Notably, the chase pack ranks 16th (Nets), 14th (Celtics) while the Raptors have the easiest itinerary (25th).
Grayson Allen (hip) and Grant Hill (neck) are questionable for Tuesday while Brook Lopez (back) remains out indefinitely.
Los Angeles Lakers
With LeBron James back, Anthony Davis feasting and Russell Westbrook getting benched again for the overtime win versus the Knicks there are a couple of ways to view the Lakers recent win.
On one hand the superstars showcased how talented they are and potentially could be moving forward. On the other hand, this was the 12th ranked Knicks who coughed up the double-digit lead, but who the Lakers also let force overtime.
I’m not sure this win should be being celebrated quite so joyfully and based on the Lakers planting seeds they want to target Gary Trent Jr. it seems they know there is still much work to do.
The Lakers PR group planted their desires to nab the guard as “being willing to give up key players.” Peel away the marketing shine and the “package” they are touting is Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan, Talen Horton Tucker and draft picks.
If you’re laughing at the “key players” positioning – join the crowd. It seems like LA thinks if they get someone to put it in print that will serve to convince their trade partners.
They might want to revisit their marketing methods because no one is buying this, especially not a savvy executive like Masai Ujiri.
Dwight Howard (back) and Carmelo Anthony (hamstring) are questionable for Tuesday while Kendrick Nunn (knee) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
- Milwaukee are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 4 of LA Lakers’ last 5 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 4 of Milwaukee’s last 5 games
Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA Prediction:
While the Lakers may have won versus the Knicks, the defending champions will pose a much tougher opponent and LA will struggle (even with Davis and James) to stay in this contest.
